Government Medical college Idukki was established in 2014 GO (Rt ) No,2363 I 201.4 / H &FWD dated.11.07.2014 as up gradation of existing district hospital Idukki as a policy decision of the Government of Kerala to provide tertiary care and research and teaching facilities to all districts of Kerala especially to get benefits for tribal areas and socially backward and distant remote hilly terrains of the state. As that policy decision Government has arranged all amenities to start the Government medical college Idukki and work entrusted to KITCO as per norms and they have completed and made available the academic block, new hospital complex and residential facilities, Renovated the existing district hospital to maternal and child health block. The Medical College campus extends over 90 acres in the heart of district headquarters.

In 2014 and 2015 MBBS batch was admitted here and passed the first year with a 100% pass rate. And during the 2017 period, the admission was withheld due to a lack of infrastructure. By the past 3 year period, the Government have rectified all the infrastructure gaps to sustain the college affiliation through timely and sincere effort. Currently, we have applied & awaiting for the NMC approval for an annual intake of 100 MBBS seats for the academic year 2022-23.

• Admission is based on NEET-UG (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) scores.

Scholarship

Students with low annual income can avail the e grants scholarship offered by Kerala government which pays 15000 per year. There is also central sector scholarship for students with annual income less than 5 lakhs which pays 10000 per year.All the government providing MCMA/MOMA, eGrantz etc.. scholarship facilities were there. The college will provide assistance for applying to those if needed. The college will provide job assistance via campus placement. No fees or stipend for that. But they prefer some amount if we placed in campus recruitment. Not a compulsory one.
