Jagadguru Sri Shivarathreeshwara Mahavidyapeetha (JSSMVP), Parent institution of the college, an institution of international acclaim was founded by His Holiness Jagadguru Dr. Sri Shivarathri Rajendra Mahaswamiji established in the year 1954 which was registered under the Societies Registration Act 1960. It is striving for social development by responding to the community needs. It strongly believes that unless the problems of the socially backward communities and the poor are solved, there cannot be social development. With this objective, several development initiatives at the same time living up to its principle of ‘Work is worship’ and is engaged in raising public awareness on issues of social concern. JSSMVP adopts a multipronged approach to ensure a better quality of life. Through its over 350 varied institutions, it not only provides learning to over 90,000 students but also touches the lives of millions through a cascading effect. The present Pontiff His Holiness Jagadguru Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Mahaswamiji, the 24th spiritual Head of Sutturu Math and President of JSS Mahavidyapeetha has been the torch bearer of its tradition of providing educational excellence, health care and nurturing rural development for the economic upliftiment of society. Important aspect that worth mentioning here is that instead of making students come to cities seeking education. Jagadguru Dr. Sri Shivarathri Rajendra Swamiji thought of starting educational institutions in rural areas, which resulted in the establishment of JSS College in Chamarajanagar, a semi-urban, border area.

JSS College for Women, Chamarajanagar established in 1967 by JSS Mahavidyapeetha (JSSMVP), is situated on a sprawling eco friendly Campus of 14.5 Acres with a spacious building and hostel. At its genesis it was JSS College for Arts, Science & Commerce in the year 2001, it got recognised by UGC under 2(f) & 12(B), adopted to Women’s College & permanently affiliated to University of Mysore. The college has grown over the last 56 years by catering the needs and aspirations of the student and society.

Scholership

The candidates must be studying in Classes 11 and 12 at a recognised educational institution in India. Applicants must have scored at least 60% marks in the preceding class. The annual family income of the applicants from all sources must be less than or equal to₹2,50,000.

Girls Hostel
The college has A two-story women’s hostel, which accommodates 160 inmates, with all facilities, for both students and working women with Telephone, Medical and Counselling facilities is an added advantage.


Gym
The college has fully equipped Multi-Gym facility for the students.


Library
The college has a separate library block with necessary infrastructural facilities. Library advisory committee recommends the purchase of new books based on the requisition and feedback analysis. Financial resources of management, college and UGC are used in the up-gradation of the library. The total collection of 30895 books which included journals and periodicals. Reference works, texts, photocopy, books under suggested reading category and reference works are kept in the library. Similarly glossaries, dictionaries, technical and scientific terminological dictionaries are also available. Library book data is computerized and services automated (Barcoding) and OPAC, Open access, DDC classification, INFLIBNET, Internet with 512 Mbps bandwidth. The average number of addition of books per annum is around 300 worth Rs. The 35000/-and average number of users is 150 per day including both students and staff.

Sports
The college has indoor games like table tennis, chess, carom, shuttle badminton stadium is available. A multipurpose outdoor sports arena with Athletic track and to play kho-kho, basketball, throwball, volleyball, handball, ball badminton is maintained.
