Karnataka State Akkamahadevi Women’s University (short name: KSAWU), located in Vijayapura (formerly Bijapur) in Karnataka, India, is a public state university established in August 2003 with the purpose of promoting women’s higher education and empowerment across the region. It was founded by the Government of Karnataka to create an inclusive academic platform dedicated exclusively to women, aiming to foster knowledge, leadership, skill development and socio-economic growth among female students in the state.

The university’s main campus—Jnanashakti Campus—is situated along Athani Road, Torvi, Vijayapura, Karnataka – 586108. Spread over approximately 281–286 acres, the campus offers a spacious and serene learning environment with academic blocks, student hostels, research facilities, and recreational areas about 10 km from the city centre.

KSAWU is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under Sections 2(f) and 12(B) of the UGC Act. It holds a ‘B’ grade accreditation from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) and receives recognition and participation in various state and national academic frameworks and rankings. The university has also been awarded four stars in KSURF rankings.

The university operates its constituent departments and has a wide academic faculty structure covering Arts, Science & Technology, Commerce & Management, Social Sciences, Education and Physical Education. Admission Process
Admission to Karnataka State Akkamahadevi Women’s University (KSAWU) is generally merit-based, depending on the marks obtained in the qualifying examination.
