Karnataka Veterinary, Animal and Fisheries Sciences University (KVAFSU) 

Karnataka Veterinary, Animal and Fisheries Sciences University abbreviated as KVAFSU is a public university, established by an Act of Karnataka Legislative Assembly which was passed on 10 February 2004.  This university has its headquarters in the Bidar district of Karnataka State, India.  The University was established exclusively for the development of education and learning; conduct of research and extension education and transfer the rural oriented technologies in the areas of Veterinary, Animal, Dairy and Fisheries Sciences in Karnataka. The logo of the University is inscribed with the slogan Farmers Friendly and Rural Oriented, which emphasizes the importance given to betterment of farming community.

KVAFSU is an autonomous academic institution governed by its Board of Management which regulates the policies of the university in accordance with the provision of act and statutes. The University administration also has the support of the finance Committee.  Academic matters are looked after by the Board of Studies of Faculties and the Academic Council, while Research Council and Extension Education Council decide the research and extension activities of the University, respectively.

Karnataka Veterinary, Animal and Fisheries Sciences University (KVAFSU) is a state university located in Nandinagar P.B. No.6, Bidar, Karnataka.

As many as 21 allied institutions including Colleges, Research institutions and Veterinary hospitals among others, with the employees were transferred to the new university - KVAFSU.  These include Veterinary Colleges, Institutions relating to Fisheries and other Animal Husbandry, Animal Health care and Livestock Related Institutes in Karnataka.    

The KVAFSU provides various Undergraduate (UG) and Postgraduate (PG) programs.  In addition, the university also offers Ph. D. in various specializations at the doctorate level.  It offers UG degree programs like BVSc&AH, BFSc, BTech and DTech under a semester system in its seven constituent colleges on six campuses, admission to whichis granted on the basis of a valid score in Common Entrance Test (CET) conducted by KEA.

At the postgraduate (PG) level, the university offers courses such as offers M.Tech, M.V.Sc & M.F.Sc courses at the PG level.  Admission to these courses is based on students’ performance in the relevant bachelor’s degree and written test.

KVAFSU also offers MBA course in Food Business in full-time mode for which admission is offered on the basis of performance in written test followed by GD and the Personal interview.

For Ph.D. program, the university conducts separate entrance test followed by an interview.  Final admission is subject to candidates’ past academic record.

KVAFSU provides adequate Facilities including Library, Boys & Girls Hostel, Human Dispensary, Canteen, etc.

Objectives of the University are

To impart professional quality higher education in different branches of Veterinary, Animal and Fisheries Sciences.
To further the advancement of learning and prosecution of Research in Veterinary, Animal and Fisheries Sciences other allied sciences.
To undertake the Extension Education of such specialized knowledge and transfer of technologies to the needy rural farmers in cooperation with the Government Departments concerned.
To take up such other objects that the State Government may notify from time to time.

Mission

The mission of the Karnataka Veterinary, Animal and Fisheries Sciences University, Bidar, is to strive hard and provide leadership in teaching, research and extension education services related to veterinary and animal sciences, dairy sciences, fisheries and other allied sciences. The University Endeavour is to keep pace with new frontiers of science and contemporary developments to be socially and technically relevant. In this context, the Karnataka Veterinary, Animal and Fisheries Sciences University is strongly committed in absorbing newer paradigms and using them to develop excellent human resource, innovative technologies and their dissemination so as to serve the livestock and fishery farming community of the state and the country.

Admission to B.V.Sc. & A.H.
Admission: Through NTA NEET UG score

On the basis of merit through NEET UG examination conducted by NTA.

Minimum Eligibility Qualification
10+2 examination/equivalent examination conducted by an Education Board/University/Council (duly recognized by the Rajasthan Board, CBSE, New Delhi) with not less than pass marks in each subject and not less than 50% marks in the aggregate of English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology. However, in the case of SC/ST candidates, the minimum aggregate required is 40%. OR Any examination of a University/Education Board/ College/School in a foreign country recognized by the Academic Council as an equivalent for the purpose with good knowledge of English.

Minimum Age
17 years on or before the 31 December of the year of his/her admission to the 1st year of B.V.Sc. & A.H. course.

Graduates from KVAFSU Bidar can choose from a variety of veterinary, animal, and fisheries science-related careers. They can work for public and private businesses, research facilities, academic institutions, and NGOs. Veterinarian, fishery scientist, dairy technologist, animal nutritionist, and animal husbandry officer are a few of the popular career paths for graduates.

Scholarships and financial aid are available to qualified students from KVAFSU Bidar. According to government regulations, the institution awards scholarships to students from economically disadvantaged groups, minority communities, and other categories. Students can also apply for a variety of financial aid and scholarship programs offered by the government and non-government organizations.

Scholarships are available from KVAFSU to eligible students who are enrolled in the PhD program. The scholarship recipients are chosen based on their academic standing and financial need. Also, students may submit an application for outside scholarships provided by public and private institutions.

Facilities
LIBRARY
The Library is routinely visited by the staff and the students of the college. Quite often research scholars, students, faculty of other institutes also visit the library, since the library is one of the best libraries in the field of fisheries in the country; the library caters to the needs of the users on general and technical matters. Apart from books, journals and back volumes, it also provides magazines and newspapers in sufficient numbers. In addition to reading, members of the library are also entitled to borrow books from the library. Students can borrow the books from stack section for a period of 15 days and the staff for a period of 30 days. Books from the reference section are issued overnight while strictly reference books like encyclopedias, yearbooks, dictionaries etc. are not issued outside but to be referred to only in the library. There are two text-book banks- General and SC/ST. The books from the text-book banks are issued to the students to be kept for a period of one semester. The students are making a good use of this facility.

CAFETERIA
The cafeteria is situated within the college campus. It is open for all and there is a separate seating arrangement for staff, students. All types of snacks, soft drinks, meals are available at subsidized rates.

The canteen is opens at 8 am up to 6 pm working days.

HOSTEL
Students’ residential necessities are paramount for the College. The college has separate student hostels in each of the campuses for both men and lady students. Furthermore, the hostels in the main campus are divided into hostels for undergraduate and postgraduate students.

Both ladies and gents hostels are headed by wardens.

Hostel rooms are comfortably-furnished and make for a good home away from home. There is a range of accommodation options to choose from, for student’s convenience. In this kind of accommodation, students have access to TV room, aqua guard for hot, cold and normal drinking water and other leisure/sports activities within the hostel premises. Also includes the following facilities:

PHYSICAL EDUCATION
It is well equipped with indoor as well as outdoor sports and games facilities. It keeps the students healthy and fit by making them regularly participate in sports and recreational physical activity. It prepares its athletics and sports persons to participate Inter-class, Intercollegiate Inter-university, state and National level events. The students of the department have bagged overall champions in sports and games in KVAFSU Intercollegiate Tournaments and won prizes in inter university tournaments also.

The computer laboratory is well equipped with 25 computers. It also provides the following facilities such as Printing documents online/offline, Scanning images, photos and documents, Online communication, Database management, Networking etc. All the PC’s are connected with internet which is kept open throughout the office hours for the benefit of both staff and students of the college.
