Maharashtra National Law University Mumbai (for short MNLU Mumbai) is the latest of the National Law Schools established in India. The Maharashtra National Law University Act 2014 was passed by Maharashtra State Legislature under the Maharashtra Act No. VI of 2014 on 20th March 2014. The Act envisages to establish and incorporate National Law Universities in the State for the development and advancement of legal education and for the purposes of imparting specialized and systematic instruction, training and research in systems of law and for the matters connected therewith or incidental thereto.

The object of the university is to advance and disseminate learning and knowledge of law and legal processes and their role in national development, to develop in the students and research scholars, a sense of responsibility, to serve society in the field of law by developing skills in regard to advocacy, legal services, legislation, law reforms and the like; to organize lectures, seminars, symposia and conferences to promote efficient instruments of social development.

In order to advance the set goals, MNLU Mumbai aspires to develop an active partnership with eminent law teachers, distinguished judges, leading lawyers and corporate conglomerates and foster to the claims of development in harmony with the changing society. MNLU Mumbai is assuming to cherish a very modest beginning. The vision is clear and the initial efforts are accelerated.

To catch to the demands of time, MNLU Mumbai is fortunate to find its temporary space in the internationally reputed (seat of social sciences) campus i.e. Tata Institute of Social Sciences, at Deonar, Chembur Mumbai. In return to the good gesture arrangement, TISS Mumbai has many expectations from MNLU Mumbai in terms of discipline, quality justice education, and excellence in legal scholarship to flower out from their academic environment and support services. The responsibility of every member of MNLU Mumbai (both faculty and students in particular) thus are double fold: one, to raise beyond the expectations of TISS and secondly, to develop MNLU Mumbai the destination for legal scholarship from across the nation and the globe. MNLU Mumbai will remain conscious of the responsibilities and vigilant of the duties all the time.

The first batch of students will be taking admissions with effect from 2015. There are many advantages of being the first batch students of any Institution of excellence – each one of them shall be the brand ambassador of the institute at the same time there shall have to conjure many challenges in exploring everything new within the institution. A lot more learning from sacrifices with wide scope to partake in institution building, shaping of career and courses and contributing to the world from the day one always await for them.

MNLU, Mumbai aspires to exploit the inherent academic strength from the vitality of legal fort of Bombay City. The long standings of experience and aspirations of lawyers, judges and knowledge society at large in the State of Maharashtra are being explored. There are many young law scholars with masters and research degrees in hand from foreign universities wishing to collaborate. MNLU Mumbai aims to tap and cultivate the innate potential of ‘the financial capital of India’ in order to provide platform to the students to write their own goals and in turn contribute as partners with value based global leadership.

The Internship and Placement Cell

The Internship and Placement Cell (I & P Cell) of the University is a student-oriented body guided by the Advisory committee to Internship and Placement Cell dedicated to ensuring maximum exposure and opportunities for the students of MNLU, Mumbai. The role of the placement cell in every university is pivotal as it not only connects with the industry but it also communicates with the university to discover and work for the interests of the students. The Cell acts as a facilitator between the recruiters and the students and actively engages in various activities to channel maximum potential of the students and to enable them to extract the maximum experience to mould their careers. The primary task of the Cell is to make all efforts to match the career aspirations of the students with the requirements of top-level industries and organisations and to act as the core representative of student-welfare in these organisations. The Cell constantly keeps track of all avenues in the legal arena and helps the students discover divergent aspects to help broaden their scope and arena and to absorb them to esteemed organisations. The Cell is focused on all round development of the students and works towards nurturing and preparing the students for their future careers and bring success and repute to the institution.

Scholarship 1
The Government of Maharashtra: (MAHADBT) – This facility of scholarship is provided by the Govt. Maharashtra to Maharashtra domiciled students; under this portal (MahaDBT) various scholarships are available to candidates as per their eligibility.

Scholarship 2
The Government of Madhya Pradesh: This scholarship scheme (Medhavi Yojana) is being offered by the Madhya Pradesh Government exclusively for Madhya Pradesh State domiciled students only.

Scholarship 3
The Government of Rajasthan:. This scholarship scheme (Mukhya Mantri Sarvajan Uchha Shiksha Chhatravriti Yojana) is being offered by the Rajasthan Government exclusively for Rajasthan State domiciled students only.

Scholarship 4
National Scholarships Portal (NSP) – This is a common portal for various Scholarship schemes at all India level; in which most scholarships would be offered to All India Candidate (Non-Maharashtra and Maharashtra Candidates), Minority candidates and Handicapped candidates.

Scholarship 5
Top Class Education: The Scheme aims at recognizing and promoting quality education amongst students belonging to SCs, by providing full financial support. The scheme will cover SC student’s scholarships for pursuing higher studies.

MNLU Mumbai Facilities

Maharashtra National Law University, Mumbai MNLU is fully equipped with the facilities needed by law students which help them in learning and relaxing.

Facilities provided are listed below:

Hostel: The university has fully furnished hostels for boys and girls. Hostels are fully equipped with all services like a water cooler, fan, wifi, lights, etc. For the safety of students, CCTV cameras and Security guards are available 24x7.

Moot Court Hall: Moot court sessions are the extracurricular activity in law colleges. It helps students analyse a problem, research the relevant law, and prepare submissions, and present oral arguments.

Meditation Centre: There is an on-campus meditation centre. It’s a good way of relaxing and maintaining a peaceful mind.

Internship Cell: There is a dedicated internship cell which helps students in training for real life and providing intern opportunities.

Library: A fully furnished library equipped with all facilities and books from various authors to read.
