Nazareth Margoschis College at Pillaiyanmanai is a co-educational college of Arts, Science and commerce. It is named after a well known S.P.G. Missionary Rev. Canon Arthur Margoschis. It is situated in rural surroundings and is easily accessible to the youth of the villages in the southern part of Thoothukudi District. The college is under the management of Thoothukudi-Nazareth Diocesan Trust Association, the educational wing of the Thoothukudi-Nazareth Diocese of the Church of South India.

The College was started in 1967 with three sections in the Pre-University Course affiliated to the Madurai Kamaraj University. Regular classes began from 05-07-1967. Prof.S.James Jegaraj was the pioneering Principal guided the college from 1967 to 1982. It was upgraded to first grade status with the introduction of degree courses in Economics and Mathematics in 1970. It became a co-educational institution in 1972 and in the same year History major was introduced at the degree level.

As Pre-University courses were taken away from the college as in 1979, more degree level courses were started. B.Sc.Zoology, B.A. English Literature & B.Sc. Chemistry were introduced in 1978, 1979 & 1981.

The Second Principal Prof. S. John Gabriel assumed charge as Principal from 1982 to 1995. B.Com. degree course was introduced in 1982. The college became a Post-Graduate Institution from 1987 with the introduction of M.Sc.Mathematics. The College chapel, P.G. Block and front side compound wall were built during his period. Since 1990, the college has been affiliated to the Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, Tirunelveli.

Dr. A.D.K. Jeyaseelan was the third Principal of our college from April 1995. A.D. Koilpillai Computer centre was built in 1996 and P.G.D.C.A.course was started in the same year. B.Sc. Computer Science (self financed) was introduced in 1997. V.V.Group Library building with air-conditioned staff reading hall was opened on 24.4.1999.

Dr. J. Joel assumed charge as Principal from 2000 to 2013. M.Sc. Chemistry course was started in 2001.B.Com. and M.Com. courses were also introduced during the academic year 2002- 2003. The construction of the compound wall enclosing the whole area of the college was built. The college has been first accredited by NAAC – I with B Grade in the year 2008.

The second floor of the Bishop Jeyapaul David Ladies’ Hostel was constructed in 2004. Mr. D.Duraisamy Nadar Block and Mrs.Rajammal Duraisamy Nadar (Oorvasi Soap, Chennai) M.C.A. Block, Bishop Dr.J.A.D.Jebachandran Auditorium with twelve class rooms in the ground floor were also built. Mrs. Visithiral Jebachandran Women’s Hostel with pedestal area of 17,000 sq. feet under the UGC XI plan - Special Development Scheme was also built.

To bring out and enhance the hidden skills and to inculcate human values, morals and ethics in the minds of the students to make them resourceful personalities.

To infuse the spirit of research among the members of the staff and the student community.

To conduct outreach programmes to the underprivileged and disadvantaged sections of the surrounding community to create among them a spirit of self-reliance.

Admission

1.The procedure given in this communication is applicable to all the Government/Government Aided/ Self Financing Colleges of Arts and Science in Tamil Nadu. These are to be observed both in letter and spirit Where otherwise stated these procedure for admission to UG/PG courses are common for both

2 Transparent exhibition of the fee structure for various courses should be given in the prospectus.

3. The Principal of the college and the admission committee will be responsible for any violations in this regard

4 Admission Committee is to be broadened to include senior teaching faculty, number to be specified as either 3 or 4

5 Implementation of Rules of Reservation should be followed strictly to each course separately.

6 Admissions for aided courses are to be conducted before admissions for each self financing courses.

7. a) The choices of colleges and courses, should be opted by the candidates at the time of registration.

b) Filled in application should contain atleast one contact number.

8 Documents to be scanned and uploaded as per instructions in the webportal

a) Qualifying Examination Mark Sheet / Provisional Marksheet

b) Community Certificate (wherever applicable)

Eligibility certificate for students from other States/ Boards/Universities.

Original Certificates are to be produced at the time of admission only. However, if a candidate fails to produce the relevant certificates in original at the time of admission. the admission shall be cancelled.

The online application fee is Rs.48/- and registration fee is Rs.2/- for eachcollege. There is no application fee for SC/ST Candidates.

Admission Committee for UG and PG courses:

The Admission Committee is common for both UG and PG courses and it should include the following members apart from Principal

Two Senior most staff members.

(ii) A Senior most co-opted staff member belonging to SC/ST, one for UG and one for PG

a) List of Applications received within the last date prescribed

b Rank list should be signed by the members of the Selection Committee.

c) Rank list have to be displayed in the College Website

d) Minutes of Selection Committee meeting

Procedure for admission to PG courses:

a) Application Fee for PG course is fixed at Rs. 58/- (Rupees Fifty Eight only) + Rs.2/- (Rupees Two only) for Registration fee. For SC/ST candidates, there is no Application fee

b) For admission to Post Graduate courses (PG) a candidate must have passed the 3 years degree courses (under the 10+2+3 pattern) recognized by the University as equivalent thereto

c) In the case of admission to PG course in all Colleges including Autonomous. Aided and Self Financing Colleges, the date of registration for admission will be notified separately

d) For admission to all PG courses other than MBA and MCA, the qualifying examination marks will be intimated separately

e) For MBA/MCA admission, AICTE / Anna University norms will have to be followed, subject to modification.

Placement cell

The placement cell enforces a strong intercession with the companies from the state and national level. By organizing campus recruitment campaigns the placement cell has brought the part - time and full - time job offers in the various sectors to light. To make opportunities for the students to unleash their great talents the placement cell acts as a link between the industry and the students.

Objectives:

1. To help students share knowledge about themselves by identifying skills, and interests.

2. To provide information about further course prerequisites, financial aid, academic planning, entrance examinations etc.

3. To promote career guidance & counseling through lectures by senior corporate executives and visiting professors.

4. To generate awareness about Human Rights violation issues.

5. To organize seminars on interview skills, personality development, communication skills, leadership skills, resume writing, analytical skills, quantitative ability, verbal and reasoning skills essential to all competitive exams.

Transport facilities:

The College working hours is framed in such a way that the girl students could get the road transports to their homeplace as soon as the classes are over. We have arranged regular service vehicles for girls from villages where there are no public transport facilities, in collaboration with the vehicle owners and with the consent of the parents.Some girls come by other private vans which ply through the location of our College.
