Namakkal Kavignar Ramalingam Government Arts College for Women is affiliated to Periyar University, Salem. It is the first women's  college established in the year 1969 by the Govt. of Tamilnadu for the upliftment of women. Presently, the college offers 13 UG courses and 8 PG courses in the first shift and 5 UG courses in the second shift. The college is housed on a spacious land, spread over 20 acres. Nearly 3100 students are studying in this college. The college is located on the national highway towards Tiruchirappalli at about half a kilometre from Namakkal bus stand and 15km from railway station.

The college has been Accredited at ‘A’ grade by NAAC - 2rd Cycle in the year 2016. The college has well established laboratories in all departments and a language lab in the English department. The building and infrastructural facilities are well maintained. The college has abundant space for sports and games. The library is well stacked with 36457 books, magazines and journals. Hostel is located within the college premises.

The college is accounted for 120 teaching staff, 7 administrative staff and 12 technical staff. Faculty members in all the departments are highly qualified, experienced and dedicated in doing service for the students and also for the society. The Science and Arts departments are offering Ph.D and M.Phil programmes. The college maintains a high pass percentage at UG and PG levels with University ranks. Every year the college produces 10 to 20 university ranks in UG and PG courses.

NKR COLLEGE Admission

For admission to Undergraduate courses (UG) a candidate must have passed the higher secondary examination (10 +2) of TamilNadu or an examination (like passed the CBSE) recognized by the universities as equivalent thereto. The upper age limit for admission to UG courses will be 24 (Twenty Four) years as on 1st July of the year of admission. A relaxation of two years is permitted to Physically handicapped as per GO No.239 dated 03-09-1993. The supplementary candidates are Incorporate in the appropriate places in the rank list and they are eligible for admission if vacancies exist or arise.

For admission to Post graduate courses (PG), a candidate must have passed 3 years degree courses (under 10 + 2 + 3 pattern ) recognized by the university or any other examination as equivalent thereto. All graduates in any discipline are eligible for admission to Postgraduate courses in a language if they have studied the language either under part – I or part – II and if they have the required percentage of marks as per university norms.

Library

The Namakkal Kavignar Ramalingam Government Arts College for Women library has close to 45,000 books which stimulate and encourage our students to learn beyond textbooks. The book bank helps poor students meet their requirements for textbooks. Students are issued books from the department libraries and the general library is primarily used as a reading and reference area.

Sports

The Namakkal Kavignar Ramalingam Government Arts College for Women Department of Physical Education is to promote activities in the field of Sports and Games with excellent infrastructure facilities and also to provide systematic and scientific training for the students in our college. Our college has courts for Basketball, Volleyball, Handball, Kho-Kho, Kabaddi, Ball badminton, Football, and Hockey. Students make full use of these facilities. A 400-meter track, long jump pit, and high jump pip. Indoor games facilities for table tennis, carom, and chess are available. A well-equipped gymnasium is also available.

Hostel

Application for admission to the hostel should be made in the prescribed form which can be get from the hostel on payment of Rs. 20 and Rs.2000 is collected for deposit purposes which are returned to the student when she is relieved from the hostel.

No student will be allowed to stay in the hostel without formal admission.

A responsible person parent/guardian who will comply with the formalities and procedure for admission must accompany the candidate.

Room Allotment

No choice/change of room will be entertained and students shall be allotted room on a first come first serve basis

The allotment is done by five/six students per room on an occupancy basis.

Anti Ragging Cell

Namakkal Kavignar Ramalingam Government Arts College for Women has constituted Anti Ragging Committee and delivered the message about Anti Ragging Committee. Our Principal gave instructions and rules about Anti Ragging Committee and made awareness about Anti Ragging in weekly assembly meetings. A notice was printed about the rules and regulations of Anti Ragging. These notice copies were displayed on all department's notice boards and also on the common notice board.
