About RGNIYD
The Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development (rgniyd), Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu, is an Institution of National Importance by the Act of Parliament No. 35/2012 under the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of India. The RGNIYD was set up in 1993 under the Societies Registration Act, XXVII of 1975.

The RGNIYD functions as a vital resource centre with its multi-faceted functions of offering academic programmes at Post Graduate level encompassing various dimensions of youth development, engaging in seminal research in the vital areas of youth development and coordinating Training Programmes for state agencies and the officials of youth organisation, besides the Extension and Outreach initiatives across the country.

The Institute functions as a think-tank of the Ministry and premier organization of youth-related activities in the country. As the apex institute at the national level, it works in close cooperation with the NSS, NYKS and other youth organizations in the implementation of training programmes. The Institute is a nodal agency for training youth as a facilitator of youth development activities in rural, urban as also tribal areas.

The RGNIYD serves as a youth observatory and depositary in the country thereby embarking on youth surveillance on youth-related issues. It has a wide network with various organizations working for the welfare and development of young people and serves as a mentor.

As the apex national agency for youth development, the Institute strives to develop into a globally recognised and acclaimed centre of excellence in the field of youth development, fully responsive to the national agenda for inclusive growth, and the needs and aspirations of young people of the country to realise their potentials to create a just society.


Mission
The Institute seeks to realise its Vision by:

Introducing socially relevant and job oriented academic programmes for producing human resources.
Initiating outreach activities through partnership with other academic institutions and skill-based organizations.
Providing substantive inputs in the formulation of youth-related policies and in developing innovative programme initiatives that respond effectively to the needs and concerns of the young people of the country;
Developing professional capacity of all youth development agencies in the country - state-sponsored or voluntary organisations - through training and specialised services, such as: consultancies, and providing expertise and training materials for in-house training programmes;
Setting up a world-class and modern Resource Centre that will provide library and other related services and facilities to those involved in youth-related activities - youth organisations, educational and training institutions, researchers, scholars, and young people
Generating authentic and comprehensive primary and secondary data on all issues and matters that impact the life of the young people in the country through a systematic and extensive programme of action research and study;

RGNIYD Placement Cell
Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development, Sriperumbudur has established the placement cell during March 2010. The major objective of the cell is to facilitate and assist the students in placement. The placement cell is responsible for

Maintaining regular data base of prospective agencies and firms where RGNIYD student can be placed appropriately.
Development of Personality besides team building and career counselling.
Assist the students with placement trainings.
Preparing placement brochures for each batch and circulating it among the prospective recruiters and placing the same online also.

Institute helps each student in exploring placement opportunities by inviting various companies for campus recruitment of students who are in the final year of the programme and are likely to graduate at the end of the academic year. The placement activity is primarily manged by the placement committee headed by one of the senior faculties of the institute as Chairperson/ Coordinator, other committee members which includes faculties and students from all the academic departments of RGNIYD. The placement committee is constituted usually in the month of August/September. The activities so far as follows;

Preparation of placement brochure for the final placement of various batches of students.
Career assessment by the experts
Communication, networking and relationship building with prospective agencies and firms( revising the data base)
So far organised 6 pre-placement trainings (15 days each) programmes all the students from 2010-2017.
Developed pre-placement training schedule comprising, career counselling, life skills, Gender sensitization, Project Management etc.
Special resume writing workshops for all the batches
Campus interviews started from 2012 onwards. So far 9 campus interviews conducted.
Maintaining the record of placed students

The Institute prepares a Placement Brochure, giving details of the students ready to be placed for the benefit of the students and potential recruiters. This brochure is subsequently shared with potential recruiters and placed in the RGNIYD website. The students registered for placement or completed 15 days pre-placement training is included in this brochure. Moreover the social media platforms like Face Book, twitter and online recruiters coordinated by student groups as well as RGNIYD is being utilized appropriately to disseminate the profile of the students.

The Placement Cell has evolved a pre-placement training schedule comprising of career counselling, life skills, Gender sensitization, Project Management etc. To supplement the students with communication skills special communicative English classes are organised frequently (paid course) all the fourth-semester students undergo two-day resume writing workshop to horn their skills in CV preparation.

RGNIYD – Scholarship to Students
RGNIYD is one of the reputed institutes at the present time that now offers Scholarship under various categories in order to make student profitable who shows academic excellence and financial need.

the criteria on basis of RGNIYD provides scholarships include-

The scholarship covers different areas, including :

Merit Scholarship – Students who got a high percentage of marks in qualifying exams can get this scholarship. The scholarship covers tuition fees, hostel fees, and other expenses, and is awarded for the duration of the program.
Means-cum-Merit Scholarship – Students who have a poor economic background but show some academic excellency. The scholarship covers tuition fees, hostel fees, and other expenses, and is awarded for the duration of the program.
Research Fellowship – RGNIYD offers this fellowship program to students who want to pursue doctoral programs in the field of youth development. The fellowship provides financial assistance to cover the cost of research and living expenses and is awarded for a period of up to three years.
Endowment Scholarship – RGNIYD provides this scholarship to those who want to pursue undergraduate or postgraduate programs in the field of youth development. The scholarship is awarded on the basis of merit and financial need and covers tuition fees, hostel fees, and other expenses.

Infrastructure

RGNIYD is located on a lush green sprawling campus of 43.12 acres (buildup area 11.23 acres) at Sriperumbudur in Tamil Nadu.

 

The Institute is equipped with infrastructure facilities that match international standards which include well-equipped air-conditioned Conference Halls, Classrooms, Seminar Halls and 500-member capacity Auditorium with latest Audio - Visual equipments to provide the necessary support to organise effective training programmes

 

Infrastructure In keeping with its stature as a resource centre, the in RGNIYD has a well-organised and rich library with a large collection of books, journals and CD ROMs, which are computerised for expeditious retrieval. The computer lab has the latest hardware, software, LAN, Internet and other IT related facilities which enhance IT skills of the participants.

 

The Institute has good boarding and lodging facilities in its well-contained hostel and guest houses. The campus also houses the residential quarters for the faculty and staff of the Institute. This encourages off-classroom interaction between the faculty and the training participants in an informal setting in the lush green ambience of the Institute.

 

Facilities for yoga and indoor and outdoor games are also available to take care of the participants health and recreational needs. A well-maintained garden of special plants and an excellent landscaping of the institute provides pleasure to all visitors.
