Shrimati Indira Gandhi College has been creating history since 1984 by standing with women for their right to education and empowerment. In the last three decades, the college has transformed into a respected institution for women across all backgrounds.

One of the most powerful voices of the world in the 20th century was Mahatma Gandhi. In the year 1934, while the campus was part of the former National College Council, Mahatma Gandhi visited and interacted with the staff and students. The tree under which he sat is still alive and thriving today. It is a sight of awe for all our visitors, especially our new students. Beyond being a landmark of the college, the tree serves as a symbol of strength and wisdom for our women. They are proud of its presence in their learning atmosphere and derive great amount of inspiration from it.

Shrimathi Indira Gandhi College is considered as the hub of culture and evolution by people in Trichy and beyond. Today we have around 4000 students coming to study with us from all over Tamilnadu and many more States.

Applications for all the programmes are available at the college office and online at the end of March. Eligible candidates can login to the College Website on https://www.sigc.edu/. The
prospectus highlighting the programmes offered is also available on the website. Applications for admission must be submitted within ten days from the date of publication of the State Board
Higher Secondary results. Candidates who have appeared for other Board Examinations will be given sufficient time to apply for admissions. On submission of online application each
applicant will be provided with a unique application number, which must be mentioned in all future correspondences. The order of programme preferences should by clearly indicated in the        application. Applicants can download the form for their reference.

About T & P
The training and placement division plays a vital role for Graduates passing out of the college in locating job opportunities. The process supports the students in catering to the need of the students in building their career through placements, counselling and guidance for higher education, incubate entrepreneurial ideas and competitive exams. Our division works closely with corporate to identify their needs and train the students accordingly. T & P operates round the year to support and facilitate students by inviting experts and professionals to the campus and interaction with them. Our ingenious alumnae also support the division in mentoring the passing out students. T & P division also conducts Career Guidance program for the students from their first year.

The training and placement division caters to attain placement for students through various programs such as:

Career Mapping and planning are done for students by respective departments.
Students are mentored throughout the course addressing to their career path and wellbeing of the students.

For Recruitments SIGC students undergo a rigorous academic and career enhancement program during their course of study. This enriches overall development of the students for career planning. Our students are trained in the aspects of aptitude, quantitative reasoning, logical reasoning, verbal, technical, and language proficiency in building overall personality towards industry readiness. As initiative students are given opportunity to do internship in their domain knowledge. We do practice interdepartmental knowledge sharing and need based training for students. At SIGC, we pioneer short term courses that add value to the students to keep abreast of global trends. The exposure to students is very much wide that makes them ideal candidates for challenging roles in the organization.

Scholarship

The college helps students belonging to disadvantaged sections of the society, to get financial aid in the form of state scholarships from the government. In addition to this, the management provides scholarships to economically backward and physically challenged students. This facilitates such students to pay their fees. Sometimes tuition fees is waived for some exceptional students. The  college also provides scholarships from donors interested in helping poor students to get educated. Every year during the College Day Celebration a number of scholarships are being distributed to students who are economically poor and academically bright. Apart from this, meritorious students are also awarded cash prizes during the college day celebrations. Preference is given to Athletes and Sports persons in admission based on their sports records. The sports students who have represented University / State / National Level Events are given 50-100% fee concession and complete financial support is extended by the Management for participation in outstation games and tournaments. Student participating in Fine Arts are given 50% Fee concession

Cafeteria
A Large Cafeteria, accommodating more than 100 people, with Stainless Steel, Tables and Benches is
available in the Campus where things are sold at Subsidiary Rates. Purified Water facilities are also
available.

Health Centre
There is a Health Centre available in the Campus and is mostly used by Hostel Students. First Aid Box
and Medical Appliances are provided. Emergency Medical services are available to students.

Internet
The college has 200 Mbps leased line connection, connecting around 550 computers to the
internet. 30 Mbps broadband connections for additional usage.

Parking
Bus Shelter

A large bus shelter is available in which all the college buses and vans are parked.

Two-Wheeler Stand
About 100 two wheelers can be parked in the two wheeler stand located in two places in the
Campus. Day scholars and staff use it. Four-wheeler parking is also available.

Post Box
A Post Box is available within the campus for the use of students and faculty.

Telephone Facility
Public Telephone Facilities are available to hostel students round the clock. This can also be availed
by day scholars.

Transport Facility
The college has a fleet of buses to pick up staff and students from specific Locations of the district to
the college and back to their homes. We have 13 buses and 6 vans. These buses are also used for
transporting staff and students to Seminars / Conferences held at the University / Other Institutions
and to field trips and industrial visits.

A full-fledged branch of the City Union Bank is actively operational at SIGC campus with ATMs - Very
Easy for Girls at the Girls Hostel to operate and also for faculty.

There are 3 hostels that can accomodate upto 1000 students with mess and dining facilities, cafeteria working from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Since the college is situated in the centre of the city, it is easy to access shops, hospitals, other academic institutions, and anything required within a few minutes.

Many classrooms in the college are digital and equipped with projector/IFP,s, Smart TV to make learning interesting and easy.

High-speed internet access is available across classrooms, hostels, library, seminar halls to allow learning beyond college hours and books.

Libraries are digitized and have e-resources and special software such as SPSS, Matlab, ExploreNet, etc. Special saftware for people with low vision his also available.

We are also continuously investing in renovating existing structures, raising new structures and implementing the latest technology to keep up with the evolving needs of students and faculty.

Going Green

We are sensitive to our environment.

We have installed solar panels to supplement power requirements and LED bulbs to save energy consumption.

Solid waste is properly segregated, disposed and e-waste is also done away with every year. Water wastes are properly disposed through underground sewage disposal systems.

Rain water harvesting is ensured for every building and the campus promotes pollution control through use of reusable plastics, paperless communication through internet, and planting trees and herbs.
