Sree Balaji Medical College & Hospital (SBMCH) was established in the academic year 2003-04 by Sri Lakshmi Ammal Educational Trust (1984) with the aim of providing excellent medical education.  Indian Businessman and Politician, Dr S Jagathrakshagan, is the Founder-Chancellor.  He is also the Chairman of BIHER.  He is the owner of Rela Hospital, Chromepet  and has authored around 30 books, one of which was released by Mother Teresa.  The college has come under the ambit of Bharath Institute of Higher Education & Research (BIHER) in the year 2004.  

Sree Balaji Medical College & Hospital complex is set in a sprawling area of 30.89 acres, ideally located in a healthy and hygienic surrounding. The campus is located on CLC Works Road, Shankar Nagar, Chromepet, Chennai, Tamil Nadu. The college is just about 1 km from the Chrompet Train station and 6 km from the Chennai International Airport. The nearest bus depot is West Tambaram Bus Depot, which is about 3 km from the institution.

SBMCH is a constituent college of Bharath Institute of Higher Education and Research. The college is approved by UGC and Medical council of India (NMC), New Delhi.  SBMC has NAAC accreditation. It also has an ISO Accredited Blood Bank and NABL accredited Laboratory.

Sree Balaji Medical College & Hospital is a Tertiary Care Center imparting Training and Education to students along with Research and nurturing excellence in patient care.  It offers UG and PG programs in the fields of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences.  At present the college has an annual intake of 250 UG admissions per year for M.B.B.S and 163 seats for various PG and Super Speciality (M.D/M.S/DM) courses – MD (15 streams 120 seats) / MS(4 stream 41seats) / DM (Neurology 2 seats).  The eligibility for admission into the college is bases on the NEET, NEET PG Entrance Exams.

SBMCH is provided with state of art infrastructure in terms of its Building Blocks which consists of all necessary facilities like Central Library, Hostel, Student Welfare Scheme, Sports Facilities, Cafeteria, Bank facilities.

The attached Sree Balaji Hospital, the 1000 bed Teaching Hospital provides all levels of holistic health care which includes major Super-speciality services like Critical Care, Cardiac Care, Minimally Invasive and Day Care Surgery, Nero-Care Centre and 24 hour Dialysis Centre.  This extends Training opportunities to the students of the institute. 

Over the last 20+ years of educational services, SBMCH has 10 L + patients treated annual with the dedicated support and efforts of 650+ Medical Staff in premises and 30+ Speciality Departments.  In addition, Sree Balaji Medical College & Hospital has signed MoU with the following Indian and International organisations:

Sree Balaji Medical College and Hospital (SBMCH), Chennai was established in 2004. Balaji Medical College is affiliated to BIHER Chennai. The college offers MBBS and B.Sc. (AHS) programs at UG level and MD, MS, DM & M.Ch courses at PG level. Admission to MBBS program is offered on the basis of marks in NEET UG followed by counselling conducted by Directorate General of Health Sciences, New Delhi.The minimum eligibility for MBBS is 10+2 in PCB with at least 50% marks (40% for SC/ST and OBC categories) and English as the main subject.Admission to B.Sc. in Allied Health Science is done on the basis of merit in the qualifying examination. MBBS degree is a must for MD & MS programs. Admission is granted on the basis of score in NEET PG followed by counselling.Admission to M.Ch and DM is based on the valid score in NEET SS.

Sree Balaji Medical College & Hospital Central Library centrally air-conditioned, well-lit, aesthetically library designed to be fireproof, you enter an atmosphere of serious intellectual work. Any member of SBMC&H has free access to a rich collection of more than 18138books, 160 journals, and over 7,200 back issues at any time between 8 a.m. and 10 p.m. on weekdays and between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. on public holidays. The library provides and facilitates free access to online journals for students and teachers.

Ambulance Services

Our ambulance services provide timely and quality pre-hospital emergency care for seriously ill and injured patients. Moreover, our ambulance services also cater to patients who need to be moved to other locations in case of an emergency. Our ambulance services extend throughout the south.

Canteen & Coffee Shop

The canteen is well maintained with all the latest equipment and a hygienic kitchen with a Veg & Non-Veg Menu. 

The cafeteria is available on Campus with all the latest Menus.

Computer Centre

The state-of-the-art Computer Centre enables students to pursue their studies. Installed 200+ Systems for the use of Faculty Members & Students.

Trusting this thinking, Sree Balaji Medical College and Hospital decided to provide a platform for its students to showcase their talents in sporting events. TRANSPORTATION  Transport is available 24 hrs in case of any emergency in the institute / hostels. Transportation is available for conducting industrial tours and visits etc. Regular transport facility available up to 10 PM.
