HISTORY

The founder figure of this college 18th Pontiff  Sri-la-Sri Guru Maha Sannithanam brought out a desirable change in providing education to the people living in and around of Villupuram district. Tamil and Saivam were his two deep visions.  He himself was a great Tamil Scholar.  His ardent faith on Tamil made him to establish a Tamil Forum in the name style of Murugan Senthamizh Kazhagam in 1937 with an idea of establishing a Tamil College in Mailam on 14-07-1938.

On the basis of the report of Vidwan Thiru T. K. Natesa Sharma,  specially appointed Commissioner by the University of Madras, and affiliation of this college with Madras University was granted as per letter No: A/336/D/03.08.1941

Srimath Sivagnana Balaya Swamigal Tamil Arts and Science College Mailam Admission

English can be studied under a Bachelor’s of Arts for 3 years. For the stream of commerce, a general Bachelor’s of Commerce or a B.Com in Computer Applications can be selected for a 3 year long period. Computer Science or Physics can be studied in a period of 3 years under a Bachelor of Science, while another option of a 3-year Bachelor’s of Computer Applications can further be another option to be considered. 

Tamil, at the postgraduate study level, can be done under a Master’s of Arts for 2 years. Tamil can also be studied as a M.Phil degree. Lastly, a general Master’s of Commerce and Master’s of Science is offered for those pursuing degrees in the commerce or science field. 

Eligibility 

Students must have qualified a pass grade in Higher Secondary level to be eligible for Bachelor degrees. On the other hand, for PG applications, students also present a qualification in a completed UG degree.

PLACEMENT CELL

The department that has been working untiringly towards helping the students strike out a difference in the corporate world. Our college provides a friendly and challenging learning environment that helps and guides the students to meet out the demands in the competitive world outside. There are two ways of spreading light: one, by the candle and the other, a mirror that reflects it. The Department of Training & Placement serves as a mirror that reflects the dreams and goals of the institution. It offers various training programmes for the students and grooms them furthermore to sharpen their intellectual abilities. Instead of awaiting opportunities, they learn to chase and grab opportunities to realize their dreams. It also inculcates discipline and moral values in the students to help them become better individuals.

Placement Cell and Career Guidance Cell

The Career Guidance Cell at The New College functions under the direct control and directions of the Principal of the College. A team of Professors nominated by the Principal, work together to guide the students on Career opportunities.  The objective of the cell is to identify the talents available among the students of this College and nurture and harness them further and offer guidance to choose a bright and right career.

The activities of the cell include collecting the database of the students and compiling them for use when needed. The cell facilitates the students to improve their skills to face various competitive exams such as civil service exams conducted by UPSC and TNPSC. The Career Guidance Cell organizes seminars and meetings to encourage the students to plan their future. Above all, the main function of the cell is to invite reputed companies to the campus to conduct campus interviews and find suitable jobs for the skills available among the students.

The cell also facilitates the economically weaker sections of the students of first and second year undergraduate courses to find suitable part time jobs to supplement the family income without affecting the academic pursuit.

As per our records, Sreemath Sivagnana Balaya Swamigal Tamil Arts and Science College can offer scholarships for the session 2023-24 for various programs.
