The Tamilnadu Government Dental College and Hospital, the only Government Dental College in India till date, was established in 1953. This premier Institute situated in Chennai has rendered excellent patient care and service to the public since it started as Madras Dental College in the old building. The institute got its present name in 1992. Tamil Nadu Government Dental College, also known as Government Dental Hospital and College, is the dental wing of the Madras Medical College. Although the college is a separate entity administratively, it is functionally integrated with the Madras Medical College and Government General Hospital.
In 2012, a new annex building constructed at a cost of ? 206.3 million was inaugurated by the then Chief Minister Jayalalithaa. The new building consists of two floors with a capacity to treat nearly 300 patients at a time. The out-patient block and other facilities were transferred to the new building. The hospital is claimed to be the first in the country to provide treatment to 1,000 to 1,500 patients a day in various branches.
The campus of Government Dental Hospital and College is spread over 5 Acres of land on the TNPSC Road, opp. to Fort Station, Chennai, Tamil Nadu.
The Tamil Nadu Government Dental College and Hospital is affiliated with the Tamil Nadu Dr M.G.R. Medical University, Chennai, and approved by the Dental Council of India, Govt. of India, New Delhi.
The college offers Dental courses of BDS, MDS at UG and PG level. Additionally, it also offers Diploma and Doctoral courses. Selection to BDS and MDS course is on the basis of NEET UG and NEET MDS entrance exams respectively given that they satisfy the eligibility criteria of passing the last qualifying exam. Selection to Ph.D. course is on the basis of interview and candidate’s performance in the qualification exam i.e. MDS. For admission to Diploma courses, minimum 10th class pass candidates can apply directly to the college.

Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS/BDS) in Tamil Nadu
The medical aspirants seeking MBBS/BDS admission at Tamil Nadu. will have to register themselves for the Directorate Of Medical Education admission section for the admission process by filling out their application form. Tamil Nadu, MBBS/BDS admission 2020 is done on the basis of marks secured in NEET. Candidates who will qualify NEET Exam and meet the eligibility requirements can only register and fill the application form for Directorate Of Medical Education MBBS / BDS 2020 admissionDirectorate Of Medical Education counseling is conducted in Three rounds (Round 1, Round 2, and Subsequent MOP UP rounds). Seat selection for Government Seats and for Management quota seats will be through web counseling.
Eligibility For Admission
1. Qualification:
12th or (10+2 Equivalent) with Minimum 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry, Biology & English for UR & 40% for SC/ST/OBC.
