Tamil Nadu Open University (TNOU)
Tamil Nadu Open University (TNOU) was established in the year 2002 by an Act of (No.27 of 2002) Legislature of Tamilnadu. The motto of TNOU is Education for All. In fact, the Tamilnadu Government through TNOU has assumed the responsibility to meet the ever-growing demands for Higher Education in the State, from diverse sections of the society, irrespective of caste, creed, religion, age, profession and habitat, by way of Reaching the Unreached and Education for All and Ever at an affordable cost.
The Tamil Nadu Open University is the first University in the State to introduce the Credit Based Self Learning Materials in print as early as 2003. The Academic Programmes of TNOU are duly recognized by UGC-DEB, NCTE, RCI and the Universities stands out of the 6 open universities to have been accorded with the 12B status by the University Grants Commission (UGC).
TNOU has been providing degree, diploma and certificate programmes in various fields through Open Distance Learning (ODL) mode, and has set up 13 'Schools of Study' dedicated to different study areas for easy maintenance and inter-disciplinary actions within TNOU like School of Social Sciences, School of Management Studies, School of Humanities, School of Science, etc. With 8 regional centres and plenty of Learning Support Centres across Tamil Nadu, TNOU has covered majority of the state unlike other universities operating in the state.
The School of Management Studies(SOMS) was established initially among seven Schools under Tamil Nadu Open University Act, 2002 to effectively maintain the Management programmes and came into existence in the year 2003. It starts operations right from the inception of this University with distinct curriculum and teaching methodology, thus taking care of all the proceedings for MBA (General). MBA programme at TNOU which is innovative and student centered is UGC recognized and DEB approved. The University conducts yearly exam for MBA program. Its Learning centres (LSC) are technology equipped and have well maintained library for high end distance education. Counselling classes are held at respective LSCs from time to time, schedule of which is updated on the official website of TNOU. Self instruction study materials are made available at LSCs across Tamil Nadu.
While the round the year admission policy with examination schedules conveniently arranged on weekends and the effective continuous assessment provision have sufficiently addressed the issue of quantity in the form of increasing higher education access, the University has been harnessing the advancement in ICT to continuously improve the quality of higher education.
The growth of the University during the past 20 years has been phenomenal. With a cumulative student strength of over one million in 234 Programmes of study across various disciplines and skills at different levels from Certificate to Post Graduate Programmes that are imparted through 11 Academic Schools, 5 Support Divisions, 1 Media Centre and a robust network of Learner Support Centres and the Community Colleges across the State. As per UGC-DEB approval, the TNOU started its M.Phil. and Ph.D. programme (in Regular Mode) in 2017.
These Skill Education and Training Programmes are now offered at Short Term, Certificate, Vocational Diploma and Advanced Vocational Diploma levels in TNOU.
The University has automated its learner support systems including admission, examination, material distribution, academic counselling, etc. TNOU aims to impart high quality management and commerce education to enhance wide spectrum of individuals and transforming them to a successful business leaders / entrepreneurs who in turn will influence more people thereby lead to advancement of business society.

Tamil Nadu Open University is the first open university of Tamil Nadu. The university aims to provide benefit to the people who are not able to afford higher education. The courses offered by the University are recognized by University Grants Commission [UGC], National Council for Teacher Education [NCTE], RCI and DEB
Tamil Nadu Open University (TNOU) offers education in 3-year under-graduation in B.A., B.Com., B.Sc., BBA, and BCA. College offer studies in 2-year Master’s program in MBA, MCA, M.A., M.Com. and M.Sc., Diploma and Post-graduation Diploma courses in multiple specializations.
The college also offers Certificate and Vocational courses. Applicants can apply for the admission to the program offline through the forms available at the study centres.
Applicants to B.A., B.Com., B.Sc., BCA and BBA courses must have passed 10+2 examination from a recognized board.
Those who have applied to M.Com., M.A., M.Com. and M.Sc. courses must have passed Bachelor’s courses from a recognized board.
Candidates applying for MBA courses must hold Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline from a recognized board.
The minimum marks required to be eligible for admission to MBA course is having secured at least 50% marks in undergraduate degree.
Final admission to the courses will be through merit in qualifying exam as well as counseling.
Admission to under-graduation is based on completion of 10+2 or TNOU BPP conducted by the Tamil Nadu Open University.
Candidates who are admitted under 10+2 into a Bachelor degree program will have to necessarily complete the Bachelor of Preparatory Program to be eligible for the degree program.
The BPP Examinations will be conducted before the commencement of the Semester examination.
Self-learning materials, in print and electronic medium, is provided by the Tami Nadu Open University.
Counselling is conducted by the University at various locations in the State. Counselling sessions are held during the months of March-May, and September-November, respectively.
Applicants can simultaneously register themselves for any one year Diploma Program or Certificate Program of six months duration.
Tamil Nadu Open University (TNOU) UG Admissions 2023: BA, B.Com., BBA, BCA and B.Sc.
Admission to three-year full-time under-graduate B.A., B.Com., B.Sc., BCA and BBA programs are offered by Tamil Nadu Open University - [TNOU]. Lateral entry to two-year BCA is also offered based on fulfillment of basic eligibility. The minimum eligibility to apply for undergraduate courses is having passed 10+2 in relevant subjects. Candidates applying for lateral entry to BCA program must have any Diploma from Recognized Polytechnic College to be eligible for admission.
Candidates who are not eligible will have to appear in TNOU BPP for six months conducted by the University to be eligible for admission to the UG courses. Application forms can be obtained from the University recognized study centers.

Eligible candidates will have to fill and submit the application form available offline at the prescribed study centers by the University.
Final selection of the candidates in BBA, B.Com., BCA, B.Sc., and B.A. is based on merit in qualifying exam as well as entrance exam scores.
Candidates who do not have any formal educational qualification or haven’t successfully completed the 10+2 examination may take admission into a UG Program at the University through the non-formal way, provided they have completed 21 years of age at the time of application.
Non-formal candidates are required to undergo a 6-month Bachelor Preparatory Program (BPP).
To be eligible to claim the completion certificate of the UG Course, students are required to secure a minimum of 35% in Term-End Examination and overall 40% in both Terms.
Tamil Nadu Open University (TNOU) PG Admissions 2023: MBA, MCA, MA, M.Com. and M.Sc.
Admission to two-year full-time post-graduate M.A., M.Sc., M.Com., MBA and MCA programs are offered by Tamil Nadu Open University - [TNOU]. M.Sc. is offered in 18 basic specializations and M.A. is offered in 7 basic disciplines.
The minimum eligibility to apply for M.A., M.Sc., M.Com., MBA and MCA programs is having passed bachelor’s from a recognized university with at least 50% marks in aggregate in a relevant discipline. Admission to the program will be merit-based and applications forms are available at the study centers of the Tamil Nadu Open University.

Key points:
Applicants having Degrees awarded by the Universities which are not recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) are not eligible for admission to the Program.
Only those applicants who have passed the qualifying examination either under the 10+2+3 pattern of education or under the 11+1+3 pattern of education or 11+2+2 pattern of education or under the Open University system will be eligible for admission to the Program.
The copies of the Certificates enclosed should be duly certified by a person authorized to attest the Certificates must be enclosed.
Tamil Nadu Open University (TNOU) Application Process
Students applying for Under-Graduate, Post-Graduate, Diploma and PG Diploma programs offered by the Tamil Nadu Open University [TNOU] must visit the specified study centres to get the application forms and prospectus. The final selection of the candidates is based on completion of qualifying exam followed by counselling.
1.The Application Forms can be obtained from the study centers on the payment of prescribed payment of Rs. 100/- in cash.
2.Application forms can also be obtained From the Deputy Registrar, MPDD, TNOU, 577, Anna Salai, Saidapet, Chennai– 600 015 by post on payment of Rs.150/- by demand draft issued in favour of the Tamil Nadu Open University payable at Chennai.
3.Admission forms need to be submitted to the study centres on or before April 30th or October 31st of the academic year.
4.On submission of the Application Form, the Study Centre will issue a statement of acknowledgment to the Applicant and forward the Forms to the Zonal Centres.
5.The Admission Wing, after the detailed examination of the Application Forms, shall allot the Enrollment Number and send the ID Cards to the Study Centres for handing over to the students.
6.Then the students may quote their Enrollment Number in all their further references with the University.
7.Applicants who wish to enroll for a Diploma/ Certificate Program under the scheme of Dual Registration shall submit separate Application Forms.
8.Separate copies of the eligibility and other certificates, a photograph of the applicant and the signature of the applicant should be attested by any one of the Group A and Group B Officers.
9. For all the Program the fees shall be paid to the University. The fees may be remitted in any branch of the State Bank of India or Indian Bank.
10.For remitting the fees, the applicant may use the photocopy of the remittance Challan Form enclosed in the Prospectus. The Banker will return the challan of TNOU copy and STUDENT copy.
11.The applicant will have to enclose the TNOU copy of the remitted challan with the application for Admission. They may also consult their Study Centers regarding remittance of fees.
12.Applicants may submit the filled in Application Forms along with the University copy of the Challan.
13.Selected candidates will have to get their documents verified and the counselling will be held on the dates prescribed.

TNOU Chennai Scholarships
TNOU University provides the facilities to reserved category and disabled candidates in the form of exemption from tuition fees. The following are the scholarships available to the students:
SC/ ST students who are pursuing distance education are eligible for reimbursement of fees if they are not employed and if the annual income of their parents does not exceed INR 1,00,000. The students should apply for scholarships in the prescribed form to be obtained from the Offices of Adi Dravidar/ Tribal Welfare Department along with the supporting documents.
Differently-abled students studying a Program at the University are eligible for tuition fee exemption.

Library: The College has an air-conditioned well-designed and spacious library hall with a vast collection of 55,000 reference books, textbooks, and journals in total.
Hostel: TNOU provides separate accommodation facilities for both boys and girls with furnished single occupied, twin sharing, and three sharing accommodation. The hostel's mess has good hygiene conditions with healthy food.
Food Court: There is a food court that serves hygienic food and has cleaned kitchens and dining halls.
Transportation: The College provides buses that are well connected with all the geographical locations of surrounding areas so that students can commute safely.
Environment: The university has a big area campus surrounded by greenery and pollution-free landmass.
Sports: It promotes all sports activities and participation in competitive sports events. The university has achieved several accolades in sporting events in Rowing, Boxing, Powerlifting, Taekwondo, Rollball, and more at national and international levels.
Hospital: It has a highly qualified medical team that attends to all medical needs of the students, faculty, and staff on campus. The medical team is well equipped and provides an ambulance for emergencies. There is also a pharmacy on campus that offers medicines and other healthcare necessities
