VMOU (Vardhaman Mahaveer Open University), based in Kota, was established in 1987. Previously, the university was known as Kota Open University. The UGC has recognised the college as an outstanding open-learning institution in Rajasthan. VMOU Kota belongs to the Association of Indian Universities as well (AIU). The university offers undergraduate, postgraduate, diploma, certificate, and preparatory programmes in science, management, computer science, humanities, language, literature, commerce, education, and others. VMOU Admission 2023 is in process.

VMOU headquarter is located at Kota and its operational jurisdiction extend to the whole of Rajasthan. In order to encourage online education in Rajasthan, VMOU Kota has established Regional Centers and Study Centers as institutional devices. The major objective of VMOU is to provide educational opportunities to a larger segment of the population, particularly disadvantaged groups such as SC/ST, people living in rural and remote areas, women, in-service people and so on.

The Open University in Rajasthan was initiated : As an instrument of democratizing education and to augment opportunities for higher education. To widen access to and promote a flexible, innovative and cost-effective system of education .

Objective :

 The major objective of VMOU is to provide educational opportunities to a larger segment of the population, particularly disadvantaged groups such as SC/ST, people living in rural and remote areas, women, in-service people and so on. Some of the functions to be performed by the University as per Act are : To provide for instruction and research in branches of knowledge technology, vocation and profession as the university may deem necessary of proper.

 To prescribe courses of study for degrees, diplomas, certificates or any other purpose; To hold examinations and confer degrees, diplomas, certificates and other academic distinctions; To determine the manner of distance education system so as to organize academic programmes.

 To associate with other universities and institutions especially with IGNOU in order to have therewith interlocking system in the field of distance education . To institute and award fellowships, scholarships and prizes; To establish and maintain Regional Centers and Study Centers as institutional devices for catering to distance education in the state; To accord recognition to examinations, studies and activities conducted by other universities, institutions, academic bodies and organizations; To perform all such functions which are necessary for and incidental in achieving the aims and objectives of the University.

VMOU UG Admission 2024

VMOU offers several courses at the UG level through distance learning mode. The courses are offered in the fields of Arts, Science, Commerce, Business & Administration, Computer Science, Journalism, etc. Admission to the UG courses at VMOU is offered on the basis of merit secured in the qualifying examination. The duration of the regular UG courses is 3 years whereas, the Bachelor of Journalism , B.Lib.I.Sc. and various other preparatory programs are offered for a duration of 1 year.

VMOU B.Ed Admission 2024

VMOU offers a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) program through distance learning mode. The duration of B.Ed courses is 2 years. Admission to the B.Ed courses is done through the VMOU B.Ed entrance examination followed by counselling. Candidates who have scored a minimum of 50% marks in the bachelor’s degree are eligible to apply for admission.

VMOU B.Ed Eligibility Criteria

In order to be eligible for admission to the VMOU B.Ed program, candidates must hold a bachelor's degree in any discipline with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate from a recognised university.

VMOU B.Ed Selection Criteria

Selection for the B.Ed program is done on the basis of scores obtained in the VMOU B.Ed entrance examination. For the final merit list, the previous academic records will also be taken into consideration.

VMOU MBA Admission 2024

VMOU MBA is a 2-year distance learning program at the PG level. It is offered under 3 specializations, namely, Human Resource Management, Financial Management, and Marketing Management. Admissions to the MBA program are done through the VMOU MET entrance examination conducted by the university. Candidates who hold a bachelor’s degree in any discipline are eligible to apply for admission. 

VMOU MBA Eligibility Criteria

In order to be eligible for admission to the MBA program at VMOU, candidates must fulfill the following requirements:

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in any discipline with at least 50% marks from a recognized university or institute. Candidates with a Bachelor’s Degree from any recognized university with three years of Supervisory / Managerial / Professional work experience are also eligible.

VMOU MBA Selection Criteria

Selection for the MBA program is done on the basis of scores obtained in the VMOU MET entrance examination. Candidates having valid scores in the  CAT/ MAT/ CMAT entrance examination are exempted from VMOU MET. 

Note: The fee for VMOU MET is INR 1000 which is to be deposited in the Bank through e-Mitra or Online Banking.

VMOU PG Admission 2024

VMOU offers several PG courses through distance learning mode. The courses are offered in the fields of Arts, Science, Commerce, Journalism, etc. Along with PG courses, the university also offers PG Diploma courses in multiple streams. The duration of the VMOU PG courses is 2 years whereas PG Diploma courses are offered for a duration of 1 year. Masters in Journalism (MJ) and Master’s in Library & Information Science (M.Lib.I.Sc) courses are also offered for a duration of 1 year.

Admission to all the PG courses (except MBA and MCA) is offered on the basis of merit in the qualifying examination. The university does not conduct any entrance test for the same. Admission to the MCA program is done through an entrance conducted by the university. VMOU also accepts lateral entry admissions to the M.Sc and MCA programs. 

Tabulated below are the VMOU PG courses and the eligibility criteria for admission.

For Master of Computer Science Lateral Entry: A student shall be admitted to MSc.(cs) (second year) if he/she satisfied either of the following conditions: Passed PGDCA from VMOU OR Passed PGDCA from any recognised university with at least second division in Bachelor’s degree provided that 70% of the syllabi are common with that of VMOU.

For MCA Lateral Entry: Any graduate student having PGDCA of any recognised University will get admission to MCA-II year. Any graduate student having MScCS/IT/CA of any recognised university will get admission to MCA III year.

VMOU Ph.D. Admission 2024

VMOU offers a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) program under 18 different specializations. For admission to PhD, candidates should possess the Master’s degree in the relevant discipline. Admission to the PhD program is done through an entrance examination followed by a personal interview conducted by the university. In order to be eligible for admission to VMOU PhD, candidates should hold a master’s degree in relevant discipline with at least 55% marks from a recognised university. A relaxation of 5% marks (without rounding off) in Master’s Degree (relevant subject) will be given to the candidates belonging to SC/ST categories of Rajasthan.

VMOU PhD Selection Criteria

• Applicants are shortlisted on the basis of marks secured in the qualifying examination.
• Shortlisted candidates are then required to appear for the PhD entrance test conducted by the university.
• Upon qualifying the entrance test, candidates will be called for a personal interview round for further selection.
• Candidates with UGC / CSIR NET (JRF) examination / SET / GATE (with a valid score) / Teacher Research Fellowship holder are exempted from the entrance test. Such candidates can directly paper for the interview.
• The final merit list is prepared on the basis of composite scores of the entrance test, interview, and past academic record. 

Note:

Weightage of 10 marks in the final merit (written test and interview) will be given to the following candidates:

• Qualified UGC / CSIR NET (JRF) examination / SET / GATE (with a valid score) / Teacher Research Fellowship holder
• Passed M.Phil. Course with a minimum of 65% marks from any recognized University
• A permanent University/College Teacher who is appointed by RPSC /  equivalent / duly constituted selection committee working in UGC scale with a minimum five years teaching experience on regular basis

VMOU Application Process 2024

VMOU application process is completely online. Applications forms for admission to the VMOU courses can be filled by visiting the official website of the university. Candidates can submit the applications by paying a required fee along with the necessary documents. Given below is the step-by-step process to apply for VMOU admissions:

Vardhman Mahaveer Open University Placement Cell, commonly referred to as the Training and Placement Cell (T&P Cell), describes the features and activities that help grow links between academia and industry. The cell conducts career counselling by organising visitor lectures, seminars and personal visits. The cell is making extraordinary efforts to spread better communication and soft skills among its students. It is diligently attracting more and more organisations to come and provide campus placements in large numbers.

VMOU Scholarships

Vardhaman Mahaveer Open University gives scholarships to deserving students. The scholarships are provided based on a few criteria which the scholars ought to satisfy in order to get the desired scholarship. The NHFDC provides scholarship to VMOU Kota for differently-abled students. A total of 2500 students will receive financial support under this financial scheme, which will cover course fees, maintenance allowance, books and stationery allowance, and aids and appliances for students pursuing professional or technical degrees or PG level courses. Scholarships are available to candidates with an annual household income of less than INR 2.5 lakhs (for SC) and INR 1.5 lakhs (for OBC). The application forms for VMOU scholarships can be filled out online on the university's official website. Candidates must present the relevant documents, which include proof of residency, a caste certificate, and a proof of income.

Facilities

Study Centre:

 The centre has a computer lab of 10-15 PCs with internet and telephone connection for teaching and support staff.

Science Centre:

It has a science lab of UG science or PG science laboratory experiments for staff.

Library:

 VMOU infrastructure has a library open every day except for university holidays. It is operational from 10 am until 5 pm. The library has an extensive collection of reference books, textbooks, journals, competition books, theses, dissertations, CDs of books, bound volumes of periodicals, audio-visual cassettes, and other materials in the Humanities, Science and Technology disciplines. It features a section dedicated to education and distance learning.

Yoga Centre:

The VMOU has a study centre that has the necessary equipment and facilities to impart instruction for yoga and naturopathy programs.
