Vidhya Sagar Women’s College is named after Sri Iswar Chandra Vidhya Sagar, the great scholar, reformer who is ever cherished and remembered by people of our nation. Ours is the first women’s college incepted in the year 2005 in Chengalpet. Our College paves way for our students to face the challenges in the present educational scenario. Education, Empowerment, and Enhancement is the motto of our college. Empowerment and Enhancement is given to rural and poor women through Education. To tap the innate talents of its members the centre conducted various certificate courses and 872 members were benefited due to those courses.

Admission Procedure

• Prospectus and Application forms can be obtained from the college office on all working days..
• Attested photocopies of mark sheets and other certificates should be enclosed with the application. In all communications regarding admission only the application number should be quoted.
• Application not containing the marks in the qualifying examination and other particulars called for in the application form will be rejected.
• All admissions are only provisional until they are validated by the University.
• Admissions made subjects to the approval of qualifications by the University are at the candidate’s risk.

The following original documents should be produced at the time of admission.

1.      Transfer Certificate / Conduct Certificate

2.      Mark Sheet of the qualifying examination (Original and two photo copies)

3.      Community Certificate

4.      Eligibility Certificate issued by the University of Madras (in case of candidates from other than TNHS Board)

5.      Four recent passport size photographs.

        The Management reserves the right to withdraw at any time without assigning reasons, before an admission is validated, the provisional selection made for admissions.

Scholarship

        Every year management is providing scholarship for meritorious students and sports talentees. The details of the scholarship is as follows 

• 100% concession in Tuition fee is given to the students who secure school toppers in HSC examination.
• 100% concession in Tuition fee is given to the students who secure more than 90% in HSC examination.
• 50% concession in Tuition fee is given to the students who secure more than 80% in HSC examination.
• 25% concession in Tuition fee is to the students who excelled in sports in State and District level.
• 50% Tuition fee concession is given to the students who secure First three places in the University Examination.

Physics Lab

    Physics is crucial to understand the world around us, the world inside us, and the world beyond us. It is the most basic and fundamental science. The entire process of doing science is different. In physics class, lab is Central, Integral, and Sacred.

   More than a mere place in the back of the classroom, the laboratory is the place where physics students do physics. It is in the laboratory that physics students learn to practice the activities of asking questions, performing procedures, collecting data, analyzing data, answering questions, and thinking of new questions to explore.

   Our Physics laboratory provides students with valuable hands-on experience with new and frequently upgraded equipments. It is highly sophisticated and fully equipped to meet the curriculum requirements.

    The wide range of opportunities is available for physics students who wish to become involve in experimental learning. All the experiments are designed to correlate theoretical knowledge with the practical applications.

   In our laboratory students are instructed to learn the practical aspects and latest developments in the area of optics, heat, electricity and electronics. The lab will continue to be maintained and new curriculum developed when necessary.

   The lab is well furnished with ample space for students to work freely and equipped all latest facilities. Special attention is given to students by providing separate set of apparatus while performing the experiments. The experiments are so devised to gain hands on the concepts learnt in theory classes.

   Well labeled charts and laboratory manuals for all experiments facilitate easy reference and aid students to execute the experiments. Well observed activity time and strict discipline is ahead ensuring in quality work and ensuring safety of both personal and equipment.

Library

“The true University of these days is a Collection of Books”.

Vidhya Sagar Women’s College plays an important role in the upliftment of women. Creating an awareness is women about their rights and privileges is one of the mottos of Vidhya Sagar Women’s College. Therefore the college has placed great emphasis in educating the girls from the poorer sections of the village communities. The Library is a platform for self development, a gateway to knowledge and catalyst for imagination.

Library is the Heart of Every Institutions. Our Library is well equipped with Books, Textbooks, Journals, Periodicals and Newspapers etc. Our Library contains more informative collections of books required for the Staff and Students. And arranged in a systematic way for their easy access. Existance of resource in our Library includes collections of books is 11,100, Journals (National and International) – 34 and Magazines – 15. Subscription of various Newspapers can be seen in our Library. Theses from various departments were collected from the year 2008. Career guidance books where placed separately for the future benefits of the students. Total number of CD’s is 335.

Reference Section:

The reference section of the library has a rich collection of International editions of reference books, hand books, conference proceedings, encyclopedias and various reference documents.

Back Volumes:

Back volumes of journals have been neatly arranged and categorized under their respective subjects for reference.

Our college library is located in the centre of the academic building at a distance of few minutes walk from the teaching departments and hostels. The Library building is well planned. The exterior is inviting and interior is attractive. The building is easily accessible to the users. The atmosphere and location can create an environment suitable for study, reference and research.

VSWC Library is a spacious reading area fully furnished with furniture’s with a seating capacity of 100 students at a time. Total area of the Library is 3,219 sq.ft. Separate Library for UG and PG. Computer facilities with net access for getting more information. Separate seating capacity for Students and Staff. Open access system is followed in the library.

Vision of our Library is to create best citizen by promoting knowledge and information among the students. To cultivate the habit of using Library books not only for the study purpose but also to improve their knowledge and cater to the needs of using books. Hence we have celebrated library week from every year December month, we have conducted several competitions during this week. So many students of our college have enthusiastically participated in the competitions apart from their normal studies. Many general knowledge and thought provoking competitions were conducted by the lecturers of our college.

We are an institutional member of BOOK CLUB INDIA.

Goal of our Library is to cultivate the reading habit among students and also to create awareness of knowledge. Working hours of our Library is from 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. on both working and non-working days. Library Committee consists of Librarian and few staff members. This committee meets twice a year and discuss about the facilities and requirements of the Library

Transport

A full-fledged Transport department functions in the college with buses to provide transport facility to students and staff from various places. This service is offered ensuring a hassle-free and safe transportation.

The College runs 23 buses for providing transport facility to students from various places in the city. The number of buses will be increased corresponding to the increase in the intake of students.

Hostel

Hostel as a residential unit can develop community living, provide security especially for women students whose increasing mobility to seek education is overwhelming. Keeping this in mind, the college has set up a hostel on campus for our students with many facilities. Spacious, airy and ventilated rooms with adequate lighting create a wonderful ambience for the students staying here. The residents have a conducive atmosphere for studies and live and grow together as one family.
