Vivekanandha College came into existence in June 1971 in response to this educational necessity and hope. This College was started in June 1971 by the above Tapovanam and affiliated to Madurai Kamaraj University with a prophetic vision and a clear foresight in order to provide quality education to the talented youths of backward classes hailing from rural areas. It is intended for men only. It is located in ideal rural surroundings amidst bounteous natural scenery all round on the northern bank of the river Vaigai. The institution has a firm conviction in the concept of Swami Vivekananda that education is a man making endeavour. Hence, the spiritual aspect of education is given due weightage and value based education is made a reality in the campus. By shaping and moulding the Students on the right direction by a team of committed teachers, the college has carved a niche for itself in the realm of higher education in the southern part of Tamil Nadu. Life-training has been the part and parcel of our curriculum right from the inception of the institution and it got its official academic authenticity under autonomy in June 1987. Our curriculum contributes towards the country’s constructive development in countless ways. In tune with the proven principle that quality improvement in his leads to the economic development of a nation, our three faceted curriculum strengthens the realm of knowledge, skill imparting techniques and value inculcating components leading to a healthy and all round academic completion.

Admission Process
The Vivekananda College offers admission in B.A., B.Com, and B.Sc courses at the UG level and M.A., M.Com, and M.Sc courses at the PG level. Admission to these courses will be merit-based. Further, students have to take part in the counseling process conducted by the college admission team for admission to UG and PG programs. Every year, Vivekananda College releases an application form for all courses, students wishing to take admitted to Vivekananda College have to fill up the application form and submit it along with a demand draft in favor of the college.

Help Provided to Poor Students

 The institution allots Rs.25,000/- every year for scholarships for the economically poor Students.
 Some teachers identify the economically poor Students and pay their fees. They wish to remain anonymous.
 They are on par with other Students in all the activities of the Gurukulam. The staff members encourage them in all the activities.
 The management strives hard to get the scholarship and the loan scholarship for all the SC/ST Students as soon as possible. They can pay the mess dues after receiving the scholarship.
 Peer Team Student Tutors and senior Students take care of the late bloomers belonging to these communities.
 SC/ST Students constitute a major percentage of the total strength. Infact, next to Madurai Kamaraj University we receive the maximum amount of loan scholarship for SC/ST Students. Only for the purposes of reservation and scholarship their community certificate is produced
