The championship was formally inaugurated by Dr. Sharan Prakash Patil, Minister for Higher Education. The inaugural function was presided over by Dr. H. R. Nagendra, President of S-VYASA and Padma Shri awardee. The ceremony also witnessed the presence of Dr. N. K. Manjunath, Vice-Chancellor of S-VYASA University, Bengaluru, and Mr. Anish Anthony, Executive Director, S-VYASA Sattva City Campus.
The event was further graced by Dr. C. N. Manjunath, Member of Parliament from the Bengaluru Rural Constituency, as Chief Guest. Munirathna, MLA from Rajarajeshwari Nagar Constituency, attended as a Distinguished Guest, while MD Lakshminarayana, former Member of the Karnataka Legislative Council, participated as Guest of Honour.
Addressing the gathering, the dignitaries underscored the significance of yoga as a holistic discipline that harmonises physical well-being, mental concentration, and India’s rich cultural legacy. They also highlighted the crucial role of universities in nurturing indigenous sports, promoting holistic education, and advancing women’s empowerment through organised competitive platforms.
The ongoing championship has witnessed participation from over 230 universities nationwide, with more than 2,500 women athletes competing, supported by coaches, team managers, and technical officials.
Competitions are being held across categories including Traditional Yogasana (Team and Individual), along with Artistic Yogasana and Rhythmic Yogasana, conducted in multiple stages within the campus.
The Sattva Global City Campus has been converted into a dynamic sporting hub, featuring world-class infrastructure, athlete accommodation, medical support systems, and comprehensive logistical arrangements.
The championship is being conducted strictly in line with AIU norms, with experienced judges from various states overseeing the events to ensure transparency, fairness, and technical accuracy.
Scheduled to conclude on January 9, the championship will culminate in a valedictory ceremony and awards distribution, reaffirming S-VYASA’s dedication to blending yogic tradition, academic excellence, and competitive sports at the national level.
