New Medical College to Boost Healthcare and Education
As part of its broader efforts to expand medical education and healthcare services, the state government is preparing to operationalise a new government medical teaching hospital in Piduguralla. This institution is expected to play a crucial role in addressing the growing demand for medical professionals in the region.
Officials have confirmed that the college is planned to begin admitting students to the MBBS programme from the 2026–27 academic session, subject to regulatory approval. To facilitate this, the government has formally applied to the NMC seeking permission for an intake of 100 MBBS seats.
OPD Services to Begin Soon
In preparation for the launch, healthcare services at the associated teaching hospital are being rolled out in phases. Authorities have indicated that outpatient department (OPD) services are expected to commence by April 15, marking the first step toward making the hospital fully functional.
Infrastructure Development in Full Swing

Senior officials, including
State Health Secretary Saurabh Gaur, have been actively reviewing the
construction progress of the medical college and hospital facilities. During
recent inspections, directions were issued to ensure that all infrastructure work
is completed within stipulated timelines, particularly keeping in mind the
anticipated inspection by regulatory authorities.
Authorities have set a target
to complete the construction and necessary arrangements by May, ensuring
compliance with NMC norms and readiness for academic operations. Regular
monitoring mechanisms have also been put in place to track progress on a weekly
basis.
Focus on Staffing and Regulatory Compliance
Alongside infrastructure development, the government has emphasised the timely recruitment of doctors, faculty members, and paramedical staff. This is essential not only for smooth functioning but also to meet the strict faculty and facility requirements mandated by the NMC for granting approval.
The final decision regarding the complete launch of medical services and academic activities will be taken after consultations at the highest level of the state government.
Strategic Push to Expand Medical Education
The establishment of the Piduguralla Government Medical College reflects Andhra Pradesh’s continued focus on expanding access to quality medical education and healthcare infrastructure. Once operational, the institution is expected to significantly enhance both medical training capacity and healthcare delivery in the Palnadu region.
