The application process for the first batch of the programme has already started, and interested candidates can submit their applications online through the official IIT Guwahati website. The last date to apply for the MTech programme is July 15, 2026.

One of the major highlights of the programme is that candidates are not required to possess a GATE score for admission.

IIT Guwahati MTech in Robotics & AI Admission 2026

The newly introduced MTech programme in Robotics and Artificial Intelligence will be offered by the School of Interdisciplinary Studies and Sustainability at IIT Guwahati. The course will follow a hybrid learning format, combining online teaching with on-campus laboratory sessions and final examinations.

Candidates seeking admission will instead have to qualify through a written test and interview conducted by the institute.

No GATE Score Needed for Admission

Unlike traditional MTech admissions at IITs, applicants for this programme are not required to submit GATE scores. Admissions will be based on:

Eligibility Criteria for IIT Guwahati Robotics & AI MTech

Candidates applying for the programme must fulfill the following academic requirements:

• A 4-year or 5-year Bachelor’s degree in disciplines such as:

• Electrical Engineering

• Electronics Engineering

• Computer Science

• Mechanical Engineering

• Production Engineering

• Civil Engineering

• Information Technology

• Design

• Related disciplines

                         OR

• A Master’s degree in relevant fields

Applicants must also meet the following criteria:

• Minimum 60% marks or 6.0/10 CPI in qualifying degree

• At least 60% marks in Class 12 or equivalent examination

• Mathematics must have been studied up to Class 12 level

Classes to Begin from August 10

The online classes for the MTech in Robotics and AI programme will commence from August 10, 2026. IIT Guwahati stated that all lectures will be recorded, enabling students and working professionals to learn flexibly and at their own convenience.

However, students will be required to visit the IIT Guwahati campus for laboratory sessions and final examinations.

Programme Duration

The minimum duration of the MTech programme is two years. However, participants will be allowed to extend the course duration up to five years if needed. This flexible structure has been introduced to help working professionals balance their academic and professional commitments effectively.
