In his keynote address, Governor Bose praised the academic dedication of JU’s students and faculty, noting that their ongoing research efforts and scholarly achievements reflect both tradition and progress. He underscored the pivotal role of faculty members in maintaining and advancing the university’s reputation. Citing JU’s legacy, he also highlighted that many of its alumni have gone on to gain international recognition as scientists and researchers.
To further encourage exceptional performance within the university community, Bose announced the launch of a new “Award of Excellence.” This initiative will recognise outstanding accomplishments across various categories, including the top undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) students — with separate awards for male and female achievers — as well as the most commendable teaching and non-teaching staff. Each award will come with a ₹25,000 cash prize, a trophy, and a citation.
Adding his voice to the celebration, former AICTE Chairman T.G. Sitharam commended Jadavpur University as one of India’s most respected learning centres and a rich source of talent. Sitharam highlighted how JU alumni have entered academic and research environments worldwide and predicted that JU graduates will continue to influence fields such as engineering, technology, and beyond.
JU’s Vice-Chancellor, Chiranjib Bhattacharya, reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to its founding principles — that education should be inclusive, compassionate, and socially relevant. He urged graduates to carry forward not just their academic knowledge but also the ethical and societal values instilled in them during their time at JU, regardless of the path they choose in life.
At the convocation, a large cohort of students received their degrees, with 2,112 undergraduate students, 2,004 postgraduate graduates, and 370 PhD scholars being honoured for completing their academic journeys.
