2008

In 2008, construction began on India’s first university-based research park.

2010

Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), one of India’s largest public sector manufacturing and engineering organisations, set up a dedicated R&D centre at IITMRP.

2016

Saint Gobain invested in the world-class 1.2 million square feet research and development facility at IIT Madras.

2017

Phase II infrastructure development was completed, covering eight lakh square feet and accommodating global deep-tech research groups.

2022

Pfizer launched its first Asian drug research facility at the IIT Madras Research Park. A multi-institutional team led by IIT Madras developed India’s first 5G test bed to accelerate telecom innovation.

2024

The Centre of Excellence, CEET, developed India’s first large-scale 1MWh lithium-ion battery storage system, enabling storage of renewable energy and achieving 90% clean electricity usage.

2025

In 2025, the IITM Incubation Cell achieved a landmark by incubating 104 deep-tech startups in 2024, averaging nearly one startup every three days.
