Government College of Engineering, Erode (GCEE)

The Institute of Road and Transport Technology was established in 1984 by M. G. Ramachandran, the then Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu as an automobile research-oriented engineering college. On 26 August 2021, Higher Education Minister of Tamil Nadu Dr. Ponmudi announced on Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly that The Institute of Road and Transport Technology was taken up by the government to directly run under the governance of Directorate of Technical Education (DoTE) and subsequently renamed as Government Engineering College, Erode.

Government College of Engineering, Erode (formerly Institute of Road and Transport Technology (IRTT)) is a state government run Engineering institution located near Chithode in the city of Erode, Tamil Nadu, India. It is a Government institution listed under category 1 colleges by the Directorate of Technical Education, Tamil Nadu. Originally, the college was established under Institute of Road and Transport by the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation.

GCEE is located in a sprawling lush green campus of over 390 acres near Vasavi College PO, Erode, in Tamil Nadu off Salem-Kochi National Highway 544, between Chithode and Bhavani in Erode district. TNSTC Uratchikottai Depot is around 10 km away from the institute and 12 km from Erode Junction railway station. Coimbatore International Airport is around 95 km away from the college. Admission Process

As per TNEA, 65% of admission for govt. quota admission is done and 35% of students are admitted under management counselling. A mere pass in HSC or its equivalent with the minimum average percentage in the relevant subjects or A pass in any one of the HSC (Vocational Stream) prescribed for B.E Degree admissions or any other equivalent qualification approved by the State Board of Technical Education and Training / Higher Secondary Board of Tamilnadu / Anna University for Engineering Admissions.

Qualifying Examinations Marks (Maths - 100 marks, Physics + Chemistry- 100 marks) Total - 200 marks Cut off marks = 200 marks.

Minimum Level of Acceptance:-

For SC/ST Candidates, a mere pass in the qualifying examination. The minimum marks are same as the passing minimum for HSC of State of Tamilnadu. Candidates belonging to communities other than SC/ST should have obtained the following minimum average percentage

Candidates have to register and apply online on the website of Anna University.
Admission will be offered based on the merit of the marks in the qualifying exam.
Candidates need to register and apply for TNEA Counselling conducted by Anna University and participate in the TNEA single window counselling.
Based on participation in TNEA counselling, document verification and fee payment, candidates will be offered admission.

Seven Deputy Wardens(Boys) for each hostel will take care of their respective hostel.
Girls Hostel
Separate hostel facilities for girls in the campus provide comfortable accommodation. Vegetarian & Non-Vegetarian food is served in the Hostel.It can accommodate 300 rooms 1400 Girl students. Each student will be provided with a cot, table, chair and cupboard. Facilities like Wi-Fi, Reading room and Medical Facilities are available for the convenience of the students staying in the hostel. The hostel shall be under the control of the Warden(Principal). Seven Deputy Wardens (Girls) for each hostel will take care of their respective hostel.
Medical/Hospital
A dedicated medical facility in IRTT own band's hospital for male and female doctors and paramedical services. First aid centre within the hostel. Exclusive gymnasium inside the hostel under the care of qualified physical education masters. 24-hours water supply with dedicated owned source Fine sit outs to relax in open air and Yoga centre and Physiotherapy Centre. A dispensary is functioning in the campus for the benefit of the students. The dispensary is functioning with a qualified doctor and a nurse. Timings :- 2.30 pm to 7.30 p.m.(on all days except Sundays) Consultation and medicines are given free to the students.

Library
The colossal central library, which houses 9555 books under an all-encompassing array of 6500 titles, plays a vital part in ensuring effective and ef cient dissemination of knowledge and augmenting the intellectual power of our college. The library is open to staff and students from 8.30 a.m. to 7.30 p.m. on all business days for the purpose Information retrieval and services. Document delivery and Reprographic facilities are also offered by the Library. Standard barcodes are used to identify resources and users. Procedure for using Library in IRTT- Internet facility is open to the registered users of the Library only. No outsider will be allowed to use this facility. Users should produce the Identity Card at Counter and collect the same after browsing. Users are advised to make use of this facility only to support their academic and research activities. Users are advised to help in identifying unauthorized users since this facility is for the registered users only. Maintain silence while working in the Digital Library Do not change any of the computer configurations. Do not download/ install any software from any website. Do not bring any personal computer gadget inside the Digital Library. In case of any computer operational or access problem, report to the Digital Library in-charge Internet and intranet access is limited to academic pursuit only i.e. subscribed online databases/ e-journals/ institute websites/ NPTEL web course/ Open source educational sites and the like. Access to Orkut, e-mails, Google talks, online chatting/ playing games on computers is strictly prohibited in the entire Digital Library premises and Strict disciplinary action will be taken against the defaulters. Users are not allowed to share their net access ID and Password with other students
