The Hajee Karutha Rowther Howdia College was established in the year 1956 by the Late Hajee Mohamed Meera Rowther, popularly known as Hajee Karutha Rowther. The Institution, Hajee Karutha Rowther Howdia College, has fulfilled the dreams of its founder by being accredited with the most coveted ‘A’ Grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) in the year 2005. The “BEST COLLEGE AWARD FOR COMMUNAL HARMONY” at the University level was conferred upon the College in 2005 by Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai. The college was conferred with Autonomous status by the UGC, from the Academic year 2013-2014 and was Re-Accredited with “A++” Grade by NAAC (3 Cycle) in 2022.

Our vision is to provide the best type of higher education to all, especially to students hailing from minority Muslim community, rural agricultural families and other deprived, under privileged sections of the society, inculcating a sense of social responsibility in them. Our college is committed to produce talented, duty-bound citizens to take up the challenges of the changing times.

Details of the Admission Policy & Process
Students are admitted in the various UG, PG and M. Phil., courses on the basis of their merit as prescribed by the Govt. Applications are issued and filled in applications are received from the eligible candidates in time. The received applications are scrutinized and the merit list is prepared. From the merit list, the students are selected on the basis in accordance with the rules and regulations of the Government of Tamil Nadu. As our College is a Muslim Minority Institution, 50% of the seats are filled with students belonging to the Muslim Community and the remaining 50% of the seats including physically challenged and transgenders are filled as per the guidelines of the Government of Tamil Nadu. The percentage of seats allotted as per quota is given below

From the above terms and conditions, the selection list is prepared and call letters sent to the selected candidates instructing them that they have been provisionally selected and asked to report before the Principal for an interview. The candidate must bring his / her father at the time of admission. If father is not alive, the guardian will be considered. After the physical screening, the TC, CC, Mark statements, etc., are verified and admissions are given to the students. If there is any grievance in the matter of admission, it may be brought to the notice of the Regional Joint Director of Collegiate Education, Madurai – 20.

Girls Hostel
The college provides a Hostel facility for women students only. Around 150 inmates can be admitted to the hostel. There is a Deputy Warden to look into the needs of the inmates. The Hostel provides quality food, a spacious dining hall, purified drinking water, well spacious playground, indoor game equipment, television, free wi-fi, CCTV surveillance, round the clock security to its inmates.

Library
The college has a library facility for all students.

Sports
The college has a good sports infrastructure which helps the students to be physically active. There is a well equipped athletic 400-meter track and an outdoor gallery with a seating capacity of 1000 persons. The college has separate grounds for Cricket, Football, Ball Badminton, Volley Ball, Kabbadi, Tennis, Kho- Kho, and Tennikoit. An Indoor Stadium which has been constructed has two Shuttle Badminton Courts, one Volley Ball Court, and one Basket Ball Court. There is also Indoor game equipment like Table Tennis, Carrom, and Chess Board.

I.T Infrastructure
The college has the latest computers for students and staff.

Gym
The College has Gym Facility. There is a state- of- art gymnasium below the outdoor gallery. Modern gym types of equipment are installed inside. Separate timings are given for men and women students for their benefit.

Laboratories
The college has well-furnished laboratories for the UG and PG programs separately. These laboratories are also used by the research scholars of the respective departments to carry out their research activities. The types of equipment of the laboratories are well maintained and the damages are replaced immediately for the benefit of the users. Necessary laboratory assistants are employed to support the teaching faculties of the department in carrying out the practical classes.
Alumni Associations
The College has Alumni Association. The Silver Jubilee of the college types of equipment in 1981. At that time we intended to organize our Alumni Association. The long-cherished dream became a reality three decades ago. From then on, the enrollment started. The response was encouraging, every year voluntary enrollment kept increasing. The Alumni Association, in 2002. Prof. G. Govindarajan, Head, Department of Physics, was the First President of the Association.

The College has a Medical facility. The women students attend college after completing their chores at home, sometimes even without taking breakfast. Since most of the women students are from a poor and downtrodden social background, they cannot afford to pay the medical expenses, so they ignore minor health-related problems like giddiness and nausea. Moreover, a good number of teaching faculty members is women. Being women they are affected with maternity and post-maternity health issues like blood pressures and diabetics. These problems among the staff and the students have created an imperative necessity to establish a medical health care unit
Parking Facility
The College has a separate vehicle parking area.

Auditorium
The College has an auditorium named Founder's Memorial Auditorium with an elevated stage and a seating capacity of 300 persons. The auditorium is well electrified, spacious and equipped with a dedicated Desktop PC, a High End Projector and an Electric Motorized Projection Screen. It has a separate set of amplifiers and microphone sets to conduct any programs. It is also used as seminar hall to conduct department level seminars, conferences, functions etc.

Transport Facility
The college provides transport facilities within the radius of 25 kms from the college for the benefit of the women staff and students. The college bus is inbuilt with speed governors to control the speed limit. The drivers are oriented to look into the safety of the travellers. The college buses are well maintained and taken FC at specified time
