About IIT Bombay

Established in 1958, the second of its kind, IIT Bombay was the first to be set up with foreign assistance. The funds from UNESCO came as Roubles from the then Soviet Union. In 1961 Parliament decreed the  IITs as  ‘Institutes of National Importance'. Since then, IITB has grown from strength to strength to emerge as one of the top technical universities in the world.

The institute is recognised worldwide as a leader in the field of engineering education and research. Reputed for the outstanding calibre of students graduating from its undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, the institute attracts the best students from the country for its bachelor's, master's and doctoral programmes. Research and academic programmes at IIT Bombay are driven by an outstanding faculty, many of whom are reputed for their research contributions internationally.

A fully residential institute, all its students are accommodated in its 15 hostels with in-house dining; the campus also provides excellent amenities for sports and other recreational facilities.

Admission to IIT Bombay is enabled through its various entrance examinations, like the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) for the undergraduate programme, the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) for postgraduate programmes, the Common Entrance Examination for Design (CEED), MET for M.Phil, JAM for M.Sc and M.Sc-Ph.D Dual Degree programmes.

IIT Bombay Placement Process

·         The placement office sends invitations to the companies to attend the IIT Bombay placement drive.

·         Interested recruiters will create an account on the website of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay. 

·         Recruiters can then create the jobs or internships containing the job details which will be verified by the executive officers.

·         After verifications, the job offers are made available for the students and interested students can apply for these jobs.

·         Companies shortlist the students based on their resumes.

·         Thereafter, companies conduct the screening process and shortlist the students for the interview process. 

·          Companies provide a list of the selected students to the IIT Bombay placement cell.
