Loganatha Narayasamy Government College was first started in Chengallpattu M.G.R District. Two great industrialists Thiru. LoganathanMudalliyar and Thiru. T. S. Narayasamy jointly donated Rs five lakhs initially to start the college in the year of 1965. Along with them, the Government of TamilNadu stretched their helping hands by donating the buildings worth of Rs three lacks in the year of 1965. The name of the college was placed in the remembrance of these two great philanthropists.

The college which has the area of 60 acres is functioning in the Thirvottiyur – Ponneri road Thiruvallur Dist. Four courses were introduced in the year of 1965. Due to this, the people dwelling in the North rural area from Chennai got the opportunity of getting further higher studies.

Mathematics and History courses were started in the year 1966 followed by the introduction of Undergraduate programs in Physics, Chemistry and Botany. During the year of 1979-80 History and English Literature courses were introduced. In the year of 1980-81 Political science was introduced and in the year of 1993-94 Post Graduate course in Political Science was started.

In the year of 1999-2000 and 2008-2009 the Computer Science under Graduate and Post Graduate courses were introduced respectively.

This college was granted with NAAC accreditation with C+ grade. This college has been given the status of first grade in the academic year of 2007-2008.

In the year 2011, autonomy has been granted to the college and subsequently, undergraduate courses in Computer Applications, Tamil literature and Commerce have been started in the academic year 2012 – 2013. Also, during the same period, post graduate courses in Physics, Chemistry, Plant Biology and Plant Bio-Technology, Tamil, English are also introduced in the college.

To inculcate rural youngsters, under graduate and post graduate diploma courses in Entrepreneurship and Business Management are introduced in the year 2011.

L N College also houses research programs leading to Ph.D in the departments of Plant Biology and Plant Bio-Technology (Full Time) and Mathematics (Part time).

Loganatha Narayanasamy Government College (Autonomous), Ponneri, Thiruvallur District, Tamilnadu is a pioneering government college which was established in the year 1965. The college presently offers 13 UG, 9 PG, 3 MPhil and 3 PhD programmes and functions in two shifts, with total student strength of 4442. The college has necessary basic infrastructure including the classrooms, laboratory, library and other amenities.

A separate placement cell has been functioning on the campus

Ensuring Financial Aid to the deserving students:
As the vision of the college being, “Imparting higher education to the underprivileged and the rural poor, thereby goading on them to nurture hope for a reliable future”, the college administration takes utmost care in making sure that the students admitted to the college, most of whom are from rural areas and from socially and economically downtrodden sections.

Based on the profile of the students collected at the time of admission, the college administration identifies the various government scholarship for which the students are eligible, and encourages the students to apply for scholarship.

The scholarships help the students concentrate on academics and improve their performance in their Continuous Assessment and University Examination results. This way the practice has a positive impact on the academic abilities and attitudinal changes among the beneficiaries, as this humble assistance not only enables the poor students to acquire higher education but also moulds them to be responsible citizens.

Achievements:
The college administration in coordination with the staff and students makes this process effective and efficient. Every year, more than 1000 students benefit from BC/MBC scholarship and around 2000 students from SC/ST scholarship. Also, the Govt of TN provides scholarship to all the UG students studying in Tamil Medium. Necessary assistance is given to students applying for CSSS and other Scholarships.

Library

The general library of the college remains as learning resource centre for the faculty members, administrative Staff, research scholars and students by catering to their varied needs. The library boasts 36500 books which are maintained properly by the department libraries and itself. Every year, some 800 books are added on to its collection. The general library also houses dailies, journals and magazines. The feedback from the users of the library testifies that they are cherishing the memories of having availed themselves of the service of this library, a treasure-trove of knowledge.

Sports

Physical education incorporates a greater variety of activities. Teaching sports to students also provide the necessary motivation for students to increase their activity, and help students learn about different cultures.
