Madurai Kamaraj University Evening College Periyakulam, Theni is a Women and located in Theni, Tamil Nadu. 

The Evening College has been existing for its determined aim of providing higher education to the working people who could not pursue their studies in regular stream. As such, the yeomen services of the evening college continued up to 2012. The sudden closure of Evening College had shut down the opportunity of many aspirants’ desire to study UG and PG/M.Phil courses.

The Madurai Kamaraj University Evening College in Periyakulam is one of most dynamic and vibrant universities in India providing par excellent educational opportunities in higher education for the student community in particular for those coming from the lower socio-economic background. MKU offers innovative postgraduate academic programmes that inculcate personal and professional enrichment leading to the formation of effervescent scholarly community and thus facilitating the production of thoughtful, resourceful, insightful and responsible citizens for the last five decades. Our vision is to make the university as the most preferred institute for young men and women who are aspiring for productive careers. We wish to develop them as young entrepreneurs and future professionals of global standard.

v  Our major focus will be on imparting multi-skills to the students such as interpersonal, leadership, language, communication, computer, entrepreneurship and subject skills which would empower them to move forward to be job makers rather than job seekers.

v  The University’s foremost aim is to see that its research activities are tuned with current approved thrust areas and to conduct research that have present day social relevance and can contribute to the national development.

v  University has a vision to establish conducive research environment, which will enable at least five faculty members to be recognized by one of the national academies in the next five years or so and foresee for at least couple of Nobel laureates for the country.

v  The University also aims to see that its research findings get published in high impact factor journals and fruitful patents generating research will be given utmost priority.

v  University envisages having more interactions with premier institutions and industries. Funding, leadership, management, quality assurance, accountability, relationships with industry, international collaboration and the way teaching and research is expected as an outcome for the holistic development and to attain financial independence in funding innovative research in basic and applied sciences.

v  A world class Science Park consisting a science museum, a botanical garden, pet animals, cute little birds and aquarium is envisaged to have within the University premises for the popularization of science and technology among school children, young people and public, which would contribute to the raising awareness of the importance of research and its results for the development of society and also promotes the scientific literacy among the population from rural community. The park will not only highlight the biotic components but also explain the underlining chemistry behind the survival of these living beings and the concepts of physics involved in the day to day life on earth. To briefly describe, it would be a scientific foray for the young minds to prepare them for the future world

v  MKU's outreach programmes have been given a facelift by the increased pace and quantum of activities aimed through the empowerment of villages. Under knowledge and technology transfer to villages, the University along with the colleges has adopted 421 villages, from where farmers are going to be given hands on training in production of biopesticides, biofertilizers and vermiculture, which can create regular self income and/or employment opportunities, as it provides never ending market potential.

The placement cell of Madurai Kamaraj University Evening College,Periyakulam, is responsible for facilitating the placement process and connecting students with employment opportunities. The MKU placement cell invites reputed companies like Bajaj Capital, Reliance, Canon, HCL, ICICI Bank, TAFE, and L&T Finance Home Loans to participate in the placement and internship drives. To prepare students for placements, the placement cell of MKU conducts various training programs, workshops, seminars, conferences, and interactions with industry experts, thereby keeping them updated on current industry trends.

In the Madurai Kamaraj University Evening College placements of 2022, a total of 236 PG students and 7 integrated PG students were successfully placed. The median package offered to 2-year PG students was Rs. 2.15 Lakh Per Annum, while for 3-year PG students, it was Rs. 2.88 Lakh Per Annum, and for Integrated PG courses, the median package offered was Rs. 1.44 Lakh Per Annum. As compared to past data Madurai Kamaraj University Placement 2023 is expected to show a better performance
