Located on the pious banks of the river Nagavali in Srikakulam, the Government Medical College, Srikakulam was established in the year 2008 by then the Chief Minister late Dr.Y.S.Rajasekhar Reddy garu. It is well known as RIMS (Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences), Srikakulam and is extended over an area of 35.97 acres.

GMC (Government Medical College) has started its journey as a small tertiary care teaching hospital exclusively for Srikakulam district people with 100 MBBS seats as intake to the present m150 MBBS seats and 21 PG students intake per year.

GMC which is a teaching medical college with GGH as it is attached teaching hospital has all broad specialties and has more than 800 beds catering to student education and patient care.
The GMC&H are fully furnished with mighty halls and classrooms, Library, 5 Hostels, through its Auditorium, Basket ball, volley ball, badminton court, walking track, etc and indoor recreation halls.

The journey in PG seats started with only pg seats in MD Physiology and later has expanded to Orthopedic, Ophthalmology, Anesthesiology ,Pediatrics, Pathology and Community Medicine and more PG seats in other broad pecializations like General Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynecology, General Surgery etc is under planning.
At the GMC, the departments anatomy, physiology and biochemistry form the basis for modern medicine starts right through first year of MBBS and stays forever in the life of every medical graduate. The pharmacology department has been active in Pharmacovigilance. Microbiology, Pathology, Biochemistry forms the supporting departments for laboratory and diagnostic services. Forensic medicine is one of its kind for forensic related areas to be addressed in the district. Community medicine is unique in bridging the needs of people and the teaching of medical graduates on a single platform.

The admission process for MBBS courses in Andhra Pradesh is conducted by the Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences (NTRUHS), Vijayawada.

There are 12 Govt/1 AIIMS, 1 Deemed & 13 Private Medical College in Andhra Pradesh, which offer 5685 M.B.B.S Seats. Counseling will be done for both Govt. as well as Private. Whereas Deemed counseling will take place through MCC.

In the year 2022 state counseling body introduced a new seat-sharing formula, which created a lot of stress on the students from other states who were looking for getting a medical seat in Andhra Pradesh.

Candidates must have passed 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology as compulsory subjects and should have secured a minimum of 50% marks (for general category candidates) and 40% marks (for SC/ST/OBC candidates) in aggregate.
For Govt. only students having a domicile of Andhra Pradesh will be able to participate. For Private medical colleges of Andhra Pradesh, both domicile and Non-domicile students can participate.

NEET UG exam: Candidates must have appeared and qualified for the NEET UG exam conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA).

Placement

50percent of students got PG seats. 50000 is the highest package we get. The least is 25000. 100 percent students got internship from my college.

The number of students placed has increased from 312 students in 2021 to 542 students in 2022.
The highest CTC has increased from INR 18 LPA in 2021 to INR 44 LPA in 2022.
The average CTC has increased from INR 3.5 LPA in 2021 to INR 4.4 LPA in 2022.
