The concept of the diploma institute at Nilokheri as an engineering college was first introduced in year 2000. After many initial tries, college was supposed to open in 2010 but due to government and political policy, idea was rejected once again. The institute building was previously used by the students of Govt. Polytechnic Nilokheri was granted the status of engineering college in 2016 having named Government Engineering College, Nilokheri which was later changed to State Institute of Engineering & Technology, Nilokheri.[2] The institute was inaugurated by Manohar Lal Khattar, who was the Chief Minister of Haryana. The Guru BrahmaNand Ji Govt. Polytechnic Nilokheri (GBNGPN) formerly known as the Govt. Polytechnic Nilokheri (GPN)'s classes of Diploma Ist year were shifted out en bloc to mark the beginning of SIET Nilokheri at its campus in new building. The Guru BrahmaNand Ji Govt. Polytechnic Nilokheri (GBNGPN) is thus the mother institution of GEC Nilokheri.[3][4] The institution have best record in placements of 2021 and 2020 batch. Up to 70% of CSE branch students were placed in multinational corporations like TCS, NIIT, etc. Students of this institution are interested in open source development, competitive programming, data structure and algorithms, machine learning, artificial intelligence, etc

Admission in B.Tech first year is given to students on the basis of their ranks in Joint Entrance Examination-Main.Admission in second year though B.Tech Lateral Entry scheme is done on basis of B.E./B.Tech Lateral Engineering Entrance Test exam conducted by Haryana State Technical Education Society. 

Almost 35% of final year students in B. Tech CSE got placed. The highest package in this year's placement is about 11 lpa, the lowest is 2 lpa, average is 3-4 LPA. TCS, Infosys, goldsman etc were top recruiters.

As per our records, State Institute of Engineering and Technology, Nilokheri can offer scholarships for the session 2023-24 for various programs. However, you should enquire about scholarships from the college officials.

LIBRARY

The Institute Library has equipped with adequate number of books, E-journals, newspapers, magazines and Digital Learning Platform. The seating capacity of the library is around 160 nos. of seats. Separate book bank is managed for reserved category. The library has always been in forefront in the application of latest information and communication technology, whenever available.

ENGINEERING WORKSHOP

The department offers four years degree program in Civil Engineering. The programme aims at equipping the students with theoretical knowledge and practical skill required for operational, constructional and maintenance of elementary design aspects of Civil Engineering projects. The department has fully developed shops and laboratories. The department provides consultancy services by conducting testing of cement, concrete and soils for various agencies.

HOSTEL

The institute has separate Hostels for Boys & Girls, providing all modern amenities such as DG Sets,Telivision,Indoor Games etc. Sufficient numbers of residences including guesthouse are also available in the campus. The hostel is allocated in format of 3 persons per room to students

SPORTS

Considering other activities as an integral part of the curriculum, Govt. Engineering College emphasizes value of active sports for the students to groom their personalities well. Being sports persons, students develop new skills, learn to take up challenges, expand their competitive domains, become goal oriented , promote team spirit, engage in lasting friendships, acquire physical fitness and overall emerge as better persons. With so many positive aspects in mind, sports are introduced as essential events at Govt. Engineering College. The well laid out spacious play ground for numerous athletic performances, whether indoor or outdoor, is an arena for exuberant and euphoric sports activities.Moreover, the Annual Sports Meet, a zestful event at the college campus exhibits rich valour combined with perfection, co-ordination and skilled performances.
