Velammal Engineering College

Velammal Engineering College is a private self-financing non-minority institution located in Chennai which was established in the academic year 1995–96 under the aegis of Velammal Educational Trust to impart quality education. VEC was the first Private Engineering College to obtain an ISO 9001:2000 certificate among Non-minority self financing Engineering Colleges. 

The Velammal Educational Trust is a registered non-minority service organization established in the year 1986, by Thiru. M V Muthuramalingam, to inculcate a sense of discipline among the youth which is important to mould them into useful and capable citizens.  The watch words of the Trust are “Dedication, Determination and Distinction”.  Having started with a small school, one Velammal Educational Trust and a dedicated set of teachers back in 1986, today it is an Educational Edifice with lakhs of students, hundreds of teachers and several top-notch institutions growing under its umbrella.  Our institutional breadth spans from Kindergarten (KG) to Post-Graduate levels.  With focus on evolving our teaching and learning practices to meet the best of global standards the group pioneered the Velammal New Gen Edu Network mission.

Velammal Engineering College is located in a vast campus measuring 20 acres of land at Ambattur Red Hills road, Velammal Nagar, Surapet, Chennai, Tamil Nadu.  VEC Chennai is sitauated 7 Km from the Villivakkam Railway Station.  The nearest Bus Stand to the college is Puthagaram Bus Stand.  It is sitiuated 1.7 Km away from the campus.  With a distance of 44.7 Km, Chennai International Airport is the nearest Airport to the college. 

VEC is affiliated to Anna University, Chennai and is approved by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi.  It is an ISO certified institution.  It is also certified by TUV Germany. The National Board of Accreditation (NBA) of AICTE has re-accredited the several courses.  National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) ‘A’ - Grade With CGPA of 3.07 on four point scale and 4th rank among Engineering Colleges.

Velammal Engineering College offers courses at UG and PG level with highly experienced faculty in Full Time mode.  Approved by the AICTE and NBA, the institute offers multiple courses such as Courses B.E (in 8 disciplines), B.Tech (in 2 disciplines), M.E (in 2 disciplines), and MBA courses.  Furthermore, it offers several specializations in the fields of Engineering, IT & Software and Business & Management Studies.  Velammal Engineering College offers these courses within the range of INR 35,000-2,00,000 with the intent to provide education at highly affordable fees. Admission Process For Velammal Engineering College:

• Candidates should have passed the 10+2 examination or equivalent to apply for admission to UG courses.
  
• Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in the relevant field for admission into PG courses.
  
• Selection for B.E./B.Tech program is done through Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions (TNEA) Counselling, conducted by Anna University.
  
• TNEA is a single window counseling which ranks the students according to the marks obtained in the qualifying examination.
  
• Admission to MBA/M.E. program is done through Tamil Nadu Common Entrance Test (TANCET), conducted by Anna University.

Scholarship For Velammal Engineering College:

BC/MBC/DNC Scholarship:

The scholarship is given by BC/MBC/DNC Welfare Department (Govt. of TN) to BC/MBC/DNC students
Eligibility- Income Limit should be Less than 1 Lakh (Management quota students are not eligible).

SC & ST Scholarship:

The scholarship is given by Adi Dravidar and Tribal Welfare Department (Govt. of Tamil Nadu) to SCA/SC/ST Students.
Eligibility-Income Limit should be Less than 2 Lakh.

Merit cum Means Based Scholarship to Minority Students:

The scholarship is given by Department of Minorities Welfare (Govt. of Tamil Nadu) to Muslim, Christian, Sikh, Jain, and Buddhist students.
Eligibility-a)Income Limit should be Less than 2.50 lakh. b) Marks 50% & above in HSC

Scholarship for the students – Ministry of Labour & Employment (Govt. of India):

The scholarship is given by the Ministry of Labour & Employment (Govt. of India) to Children of Beedi/ Cine/ Mineworkers.
Eligibility- Income Limit should be Less than INR 10/- per month

First Generation Graduate Concession:

First generation undergraduates in Tamil Nadu, irrespective of their caste or income, will not have to pay tuition fees as per the free education scheme announced by the Tamil Nadu Governor Hon. Dr.Surjit Singh Barnala.
Eligibility- The student should be the first graduate in the family (There should not be graduates in the family for the previous two generations).
