This prestigious Institution, meant for the development of downtrodden women of kanyakumari district has a long lasting tradition since the regime of Maharani of Travancore, Rani Gowri Parvathi Bai in the early 18th century. It is the campus where the pioneer educational institution was started in the Princely State of Travancore. Rev. Charles Mead, Father of South Travancore Mission came to Travancore in 1818. He made the tourist bungalow of Colonel Munro (the place where the present chapel is located) as the Head Quarters for his missionary work. In October 1819, he established the Mission Seminary, which became the first educational institution in Travancore. Mr.Mead wrote the following about the seminary to his church in England."This will rise,we hope,in time to a mission college for South India". His words came true in Febrauary 1893 when the seminary was raised to a second grade college named 'Nagercoil Christian College' which was affiliated to the University of Madras. At that time, 13 students (7 Christians and 6 Non-christians) got enrolled. With the donation given by Septimus Scott,a new two storey building was built (the present Chemistry-Zoology block) in 1889.Later the College was named after him as Scott Christian College.The main block was built in 1940.In 1970,Scott Christian College was shifted to the new campus in the Kottar-Parvathipuram Road.

The selection for the courses available at Women's Christian College admissions is based on the merit obtained by the applicants in the qualifying examination subject to the rule of reservation of the Government of Tamil Nadu as given on the official website.
The rule of reservation at WCC are as follows:
31% for Open Competition (OC)
30% for Backward Classes (BC) within this 3.5% is earmarked for Muslims.
20% for Most Backward Classes (MBC) and Denotified Communities (DNC)
In the 18% for Scheduled Castes, 3% of seats offered to Arunthathiyars (within the seats reserved for SC)
1% for Scheduled Tribes (ST)

WCC Nagercoil Placements
The Women's Christian College has a Placement Cell that oversees the student placement operations for training and placement. The placements at WCC Nagercoil are very important to the students' lives. The training and placement unit regularly hosts programs to equip students with the skills they require and enhance their employability. The average package provided by WCC Nagercoil placements is Rs 2,52,000, with the highest package available at Rs 3,80,000. Loan/ Scholarship Provisions: The state government of Tamil Nadu offers scholarships to the meritorious students, girls student and for the students from reserved and the economically backward classes of society provided that they are the domicile of the state. Since the amount of fee is very less the question of education loan is meaningless and approaching the bands for the small amount will not be practical.
