IISc Bengaluru Starts Three New UG Engineering Programs

The Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bengaluru has confirmed that it will begin offering three new undergraduate engineering programmes from the 2026–27 academic session. The newly introduced courses include –

  • BTech in Aerospace Engineering

  • BTech in Mechanics and Computing

  • BTech in Materials Science and Engineering

“These programmes combine strong theoretical knowledge, practical research exposure, and industry-oriented skill development, helping graduates obtain top placements in leading technology companies and also enabling them to pursue research or higher education,” states the official announcement issued by IISc Bengaluru regarding the launch of these programmes.

Applicants will be shortlisted based on their ranks obtained in the Joint Entrance Examination – Advanced. Candidates interested in securing admission to the BTech programmes at IISc Bengaluru must qualify both the Joint Entrance Examination – Main and the JEE Advanced 2026 examinations.

Currently, the institute already offers a BTech programme in the Mathematics and Computing discipline.

Admissions to the three newly introduced programmes as well as the existing BTech course will be conducted through the Joint Seat Allocation Authority counselling process. Candidates are required to register and fill in their preferences through the official JoSAA 2026 online portal to participate in the BTech admission process at IISc. Importantly, applicants do not need to submit any separate application on the IISc admission portal for BTech admissions.

The JEE Advanced 2026 examination is scheduled to take place on May 17, 2026. Only candidates who successfully qualify the National Testing Agency conducted JEE Main exam will be eligible to appear for IIT JEE Advanced 2026. The first session of JEE Main 2026 has already been completed in January, while the second session will be conducted from April 2 to April 9, 2026.
