The counselling process, which facilitates admissions to the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), National Institutes of Technology (NITs), Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs), Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology (IIEST), and other Government Funded Technical Institutes (GFTIs), will commence with registration and choice filling from June 2, 2026.
Students who have qualified JEE Advanced 2026 and/or secured a valid JEE Main 2026 rank are eligible to participate in the counselling process.
JoSAA 2026 Counselling Begins Tomorrow
The registration and choice-filling window will remain open from June 2 to June 11, 2026. During this period, candidates must carefully select and prioritize their preferred institutes and academic programmes.

This year, the JoSAA counselling process will be conducted in five rounds of seat allotment.
Who Can Participate in JoSAA 2026?
For IIT Admissions
Candidates must have qualifiedJEE Advanced 2026 to be considered for admission into IITs.
For NITs, IIITs, IIEST and GFTIs
Admissions will be based on JEE Main 2026 ranks.

What Are Mock Seat Allocations?
Before the actual seat allotment rounds begin, JoSAA will release two mock allotment results.
Mock Seat Allocation 1 – June 8
This allotment provides candidates with an estimate of the seats they may receive based on their current choice preferences.
Mock Seat Allocation 2 – June 10
Candidates can modify their choices after reviewing the first mock allotment and use the second mock result to make informed decisions before final locking.
These mock allotments help students optimize their preference lists and improve their chances of securing desired seats.

Before the counselling process starts, candidates are advised to keep the following documents readily available:

What Happens After Seat Allotment?
Once a seat is allotted, candidates will be required to:
1. Accept the allotted seat.
2. Upload necessary documents for verification.
3. Pay the seat acceptance fee.
4. Choose from available options such as:
o Freeze
o Float
o Slide
5. Complete admission formalities within the stipulated deadlines.
Failure to complete these steps may result in cancellation of the allotted seat.
Final Round for IIT Admissions
Candidates aspiring for admission to IITs should note that Round 5 will be the final round of seat allotment for IITs and the Indian Institute of Science (IISc).
After this stage, no further allotments will be conducted for IIT admissions under the JoSAA process.
However, candidates participating in the NIT+ system (NITs, IIITs, IIEST and GFTIs) will have additional provisions related to withdrawal and partial admission fee payment until July 24.

An important highlight of the 2026 admission season is the participation of Indian Institute of Science (IISc Bengaluru) in the JoSAA admission process for select BTech programmes.
