According to official information, nearly six lakh candidates were expected to appear for the Maharashtra Teacher Eligibility Test (MAHA TET) 2026 at approximately 1,028 examination centres spread across the state.
Why Was MAHA TET 2026 Postponed?
As per the official notice released by MSCE, the examination has been postponed in view of the alleged paper leak incident and to ensure that the examination process remains fair, transparent and credible.
The Maharashtra Government, through its press release, stated that the postponement decision was taken in the larger interest of maintaining the integrity and transparency of the examination process.

"Taking into account the irregularities associated with the NEET 2026 examination, the Maharashtra State Council of Examination had implemented all necessary security measures."
The Council reiterated that extensive precautions and security mechanisms had already been put in place to conduct the MAHA TET examination in a secure and transparent manner.
Paper Leak Allegations: What Happened?
According to media reports, the police received a tip-off regarding a possible question paper leak just a day before the examination.
Acting on the information, theBhiwandi Police conducted a raid at a suspected location. Subsequently, officials from the Maharashtra State Council of Examination were summoned for verification.
During the inspection, authorities reportedly discovered that certain questions found in the possession of the individuals involved matched questions from the MAHA TET June 2026 examination paper. Following this development, a case was registered at the Bhiwandi Police Station, and an investigation into the matter was initiated.
MSCE Assures Transparent Conduct of Examination
The Maharashtra State Council of Examination has emphasized that the MAHA TET examination will be conducted with complete transparency under all circumstances. The Council stated that a thorough inquiry into the alleged irregularities is necessary before proceeding with the examination.
The authority has assured candidates that fresh examination dates and all related information will be announced through the official website once the investigation and administrative procedures are completed.
