Finality After Supreme Court Verdict
The Commission clarified that the matter has reached finality following the dismissal of writ petitions and special leave appeals by the Supreme Court of India. Specifically, Writ Petition (Civil) No. 344/2026 and Special Leave to Appeal (C) No. 10590/2026 were dismissed, closing the possibility of further rounds of counselling.
While the Hon’ble Court permitted the submission of representations to the Central Government, the competent authority did not accept these representations, reinforcing the decision to end the admission process without any additional stray vacancy round.
February 28, 2026 Remains Final Admission Deadline
The NMC has reiterated that no admissions made beyond the stipulated deadline of February 28, 2026, will be considered valid under any circumstances. This aligns with the counselling schedule approved earlier and ratified by the Supreme Court on March 23, 2026, in the case of Ashish Ranjan vs. Union of India & Others (WP No. 76 of 2015).
Any admission granted in violation of the schedule prescribed by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) and the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) will be treated as unauthorized. Furthermore, such admissions will be liable for cancellation, placing responsibility on institutions and authorities to strictly comply.
Strict Instructions to States and Institutions
The Commission has directed all State Governments, Union Territory administrations, and counselling authorities to ensure that:
- No independent counselling rounds are conducted at the state level beyond the prescribed timeline.
- All admissions strictly follow NMC regulations and MCC schedules.
- There is no deviation in the process for PG and SS (Super Specialty) seats.
The notification emphasizes that any violation of these norms will be viewed seriously, and stakeholders must adhere strictly to the guidelines and timelines.
Compliance Mandatory for All Stakeholders
All concerned stakeholders—including medical colleges, counselling bodies, and state authorities—have been instructed to ensure complete compliance with the directives issued. The order has been released with the approval of the Competent Authority.
The notice has been digitally signed by Dr. C.K. Ramaswamy, Director, PGMEB, NMC, dated April 1, 2026.
