SRM Institute of Science and Technology Signs MoU to Establish Centre of Excellence in Human-Machine Interface: SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on November 5, 2025, to set up a state-of-the-art Centre of Excellence focused on Human-Machine Interface (HMI) technologies at its Kattankulathur campus near Chennai.

The collaboration aims to strengthen academic-industry integration and boost research and experiential learning opportunities for students and faculty in emerging automation domains.

The new Centre of Excellence will serve as a dedicated hub for practical training, innovation and advanced research in industrial automation and HMI systems. It will provide students access to industry-grade equipment and real-time industrial simulation environments, enabling them to develop hands-on skills in line with global industry requirements. Faculty members are also expected to benefit through exposure to cutting-edge industrial technologies and opportunities for collaborative research initiatives.

University officials noted that the initiative will support curriculum enhancement, skill development programs, hackathons, innovation projects and industry-led workshops. The centre is designed to go beyond a traditional lab, fostering an open innovation environment where academia and industry jointly explore advancements in automation, digital control systems and human-interface engineering.

The partnership is expected to support student training, internships, joint research and technology-driven activities, helping build a future-ready talent pool equipped for Industry 4.0 needs. It also aligns with SRMIST’s ongoing efforts to strengthen industry collaborations and enhance career-driven technical education across engineering disciplines.

The Centre of Excellence will soon begin phased deployment of equipment and training modules, with plans to introduce specialized certification programs and industrial collaboration events in the coming months.
