What Is UCEED 2027?

The Undergraduate Common Entrance Examination for Design is conducted by IIT Bombay for candidates seeking admission to undergraduate design programmes. The examination evaluates applicants' abilities in areas relevant to design education, including visualisation, observation, analytical thinking, creativity and design aptitude.

UCEED scores are used in the admission process for B.Des. programmes at participating institutes. Candidates must first meet the eligibility conditions for appearing in the examination and then satisfy the separate requirements for admission to their preferred institutes.

The participating institutes include:

  • IIT Bombay

  • IIT Delhi

  • IIT Guwahati

  • IIT Hyderabad

  • IIT Indore

  • IIT Roorkee

  • IIITDM Jabalpur

Candidates should note that appearing for UCEED does not automatically secure admission. Qualified candidates must complete the separate B.Des. application and counselling or seat-allocation procedures according to the prescribed admission schedule.

UCEED 2027 Application Fee

The application fee varies according to nationality, gender and category. Candidates should select the correct category in the registration form and upload valid supporting documents wherever required.

For other foreign-national categories, the applicable late fee is US$50, converted according to the prescribed exchange-rate rules.

Bank service charges, payment-processing charges or other applicable transaction costs may be additional. The registration fee is non-refundable and non-transferable.

Candidates should refer to the official fee table before making payment, particularly if they are applying under a reserved category or using foreign-nationality or OCI/PIO documentation.

UCEED 2027 Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must satisfy all the prescribed eligibility conditions to appear for UCEED 2027. Meeting only one requirement is not sufficient, and applications may be cancelled if a candidate is subsequently found ineligible.

1. Qualifying examination

Students who passed Class 12 or an equivalent qualifying examination in 2026, or who are appearing for the qualifying examination in 2027, can apply, subject to the official rules.

Candidates from any stream — Science, Commerce, or Arts and Humanities — are eligible to appear if they satisfy the other requirements.

Applicants should check the official information brochure for the accepted qualifying examinations and the conditions applicable to students appearing for their Class 12 examinations in 2027.

2. Age limit

UCEED 2027 has a prescribed age criterion. The applicable date of birth cut-off differs by category, so candidates should verify the exact date and relaxation rules in the official eligibility section before registering.

Students should not rely on assumptions based on earlier examination years because eligibility rules and cut-off dates can vary.

3. Number of attempts

The examination rules restrict the number of UCEED attempts and specify the period during which a candidate may appear. Candidates should consult the 2027 information brochure to confirm their eligibility based on previous attempts.

4. Admission eligibility

Eligibility to appear for UCEED is distinct from eligibility for admission to a B.Des. programme. Candidates must satisfy the qualifying examination and other admission requirements applicable to the institute and course they select.

A valid UCEED score alone does not guarantee admission to any particular institute.

Documents Required for UCEED 2027 Registration

Candidates should prepare the required documents before filling out the application form. Documents must be uploaded in the prescribed format, and incorrect or incomplete submissions may lead to rejection of the application.

The key documents include:

  • Recent colour photograph: A frontal photograph taken within the last six months, with the head centred and clearly visible.

  • Scanned signature: A clear image of the candidate's full signature on white paper.

  • Proof of age: Class 10 or Secondary School Certificate, passport or birth certificate, as accepted under the instructions.

  • Qualifying examination certificate: Required for candidates who appeared for the qualifying examination in 2026.

  • Certificate for candidates appearing in Class 12 in 2027: A certificate from the school or college principal, or an authorised examination-board official, in the prescribed format.

  • Name-change document: A Gazette notification is required if the name provided during registration differs from the name on the Class 12 certificate.

  • Category certificate: Applicable certificates for candidates claiming benefits under OBC-NCL, SC, ST or EWS categories.

  • PwD documentation: A valid Unique Disability ID (UDID) card or the prescribed disability certificate and forms, where applicable.

  • Nationality and OCI/PIO documents: Relevant passport, citizenship certificate or OCI/PIO card documentation for foreign-national applicants, according to the applicable rules.

The photograph and signature must be uploaded as JPEG files with the required .jpg extension. Documents such as proof of age, qualifying examination certificates and category certificates must be submitted as PDF files where specified.

Candidates should check the official information brochure for exact file requirements and prescribed certificate formats. All uploaded documents are subject to verification, and false or invalid documentation can result in cancellation of candidature.

UCEED 2027 Exam Pattern

UCEED is a three-hour, centre-based examination scheduled for January 17, 2027, from 9 AM to 12 noon.

The examination consists of two parts, and candidates should prepare for both objective questions and design-oriented tasks.

  • Part A: Assesses skills through objective-type questions involving areas such as visualisation and spatial reasoning, observation and design sensitivity, environmental and social awareness, analytical and logical reasoning, and language and creativity.

  • Part B: Assesses design-related abilities through questions requiring drawing, visual representation and other skills specified in the examination pattern.

The total examination carries 300 marks. Candidates should consult the official information brochure for the exact distribution of questions, marks and question types across the two parts.

Preparation should include regular practice in observation, perspective drawing, visual reasoning, problem-solving and interpreting design-related situations. Candidates should also practise completing questions within the allotted time.

UCEED 2027 Admit Card and Result

The UCEED 2027 admit card is scheduled to become available for download on January 1, 2027, at 1 PM. Candidates should download it from the official portal and verify the personal details, photograph, examination centre and other instructions.

If discrepancies are found, candidates must report them by January 8, 2027, at 5 PM, according to the announced schedule.

The examination is scheduled for January 17, 2027. The draft answer key and candidates' Part A responses are expected on January 19, followed by the final Part A answer key on January 26.

The result is scheduled to be declared on March 6, 2027, and scorecard downloads are scheduled to begin on March 10. Candidates should regularly check the official website for any announcements or changes to the timeline.

What Happens After the UCEED 2027 Result?

Candidates who qualify should follow the separate admission process for B.Des. programmes. The process includes submitting the B.Des. application, indicating institute preferences and participating in the seat-allocation procedure according to the official schedule.

The admission process is separate from UCEED examination registration. Candidates should therefore not assume that appearing for the examination automatically enters them into the B.Des. admission rounds.

Applicants should also review the programme offerings and admission conditions of individual institutes before making their choices. Seat allocation depends on the applicable merit and eligibility rules, candidate preferences and seat availability.

Important Instructions for UCEED 2027 Applicants
