Participants will gain expertise in areas ranging from quantum internet protocols and secure communication to quantum machine learning, completing hands-on projects using Qiskit, PennyLane, and IBM Quantum Systems.
This six-and-a-half-month online certificate program, offered through IIT Roorkee’s Continuing Education Centre (CEC) in collaboration with Times Pro, is designed to prepare learners for careers in quantum R&D, secure technologies, and AI-driven innovation. Participants will code and simulate advanced quantum algorithms and apply quantum machine learning to real-world applications.
According to a release from IIT Roorkee, participants will develop real-world quantum machine learning (QML) applications and implement projects across finance, healthcare, optimization, drug discovery, and image classification, while gaining proficiency on production-grade platforms and simulating algorithms using IBM and D-Wave quantum systems.
The global quantum computing market, valued at USD 1.42 billion in 2024, is projected to reach USD 4.24 billion by 2030, growing at a CAGR of 20.5% (2025–2030). BCG emphasizes that quantum computing will generate substantial economic value worldwide through public-sector initiatives, corporate investments, and robust supply chains guided by strategic roadmaps. McKinsey’s Quantum Technology Monitor highlights that several mission-critical industries will increasingly rely on quantum technology, with quantum computing, quantum communication, and quantum sensing emerging as key growth drivers.
Speaking on the program launch, Prof. Kaushik Ghosh, Coordinator, CEC, IIT Roorkee, stated:
"At IIT Roorkee, this program bridges theory and deployment. Participants will code, simulate, benchmark quantum algorithms, and leverage AI/ML where quantum advantage is emerging. By integrating Qiskit, PennyLane, and access to real quantum hardware, we equip engineers and researchers to translate prototypes into production-grade pilots across security, optimization, finance, and data-intensive healthcare applications."
The program consists of five modules: Introduction to Quantum Computing and Applications; Quantum Algorithms and Software; Quantum Communications and Networks; Quantum Machine Learning; and Quantum Machine Learning Applications. Participants will gain practical knowledge of quantum communication protocols (including Quantum Key Distribution, teleportation, and quantum cryptography), hands-on experience with Shor’s, Grover’s, and Simon’s algorithms, and the ability to implement advanced QML models such as QSVMs, QNNs, and Quantum GANs.
The program provides over 300 learning hours through a blend of synchronous and asynchronous sessions, including case studies, assignments, a 30-hour Capstone Project, and an optional campus immersion. Participants who successfully complete the program will be awarded a certificate from the CEC, IIT Roorkee. The application deadline for the program is November 23, 2025.
