Regulatory delays, Court battles stall NEET PG Admissions

Regulatory delays, Court battles stall NEET PG Admissions: Two months have passed since the NEET PG 2025 results were announced, yet postgraduate medical admissions across India remain at a standstill.

Two months have passed since the NEET PG 2025 results were announced, yet postgraduate medical admissions across India remain at a standstill.

The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC), which oversees All India Quota (AIQ) counselling, has notified states that the National Medical Commission (NMC) has instructed it to keep the process on pause for now.

Officials from the state selection committee attribute the delay mainly to two reasons. The first is that the NMC is still reviewing proposals to approve new medical colleges and expand MD/MS seats in existing institutions for the 2025–26 academic session.

“Until these approvals are finalized, MCC cannot release the complete seat matrix,” said an official from the Directorate of Medical Education.

NMC sources added that pending matters in the Supreme Court are also slowing progress. Among these are petitions urging the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) to release the full NEET PG question paper and answer key to ensure transparency.

While national-level counselling is yet to begin, Tamil Nadu’s state selection committee has opened the application window for PG admissions under the state quota and started verifying candidates’ details. Admissions will cover a few government college seats and all seats in private self-financing colleges.

Meanwhile, aspirants are growing anxious about the prolonged uncertainty. “It’s been two months since results came out, but there’s no clarity on counselling. I didn’t accept any job offer because I’m waiting for admission, and many others are in the same situation. It feels like the government has put us on an indefinite hold,” said Dr. R. Karthikeyan, an aspirant awaiting a postgraduate seat.
