NEET UG 2026: Debate Grows on Conducting Exam Twice a Year Like JEE: As the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) UG 2026 approaches, a major debate has emerged among students, parents, and education experts โ€” should NEET be conducted twice a year like the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE)?

Many aspirants argue that holding NEET twice annually would reduce pressure, provide a second chance within the same academic cycle, and help students perform better without relying entirely on a single exam day. The JEE system, which offers multiple attempts and considers the best score, has often been praised for reducing exam anxiety and fairer evaluation.

With increasing competition and nearly 25 lakh candidates expected to appear for NEET UG 2026, supporters believe a biannual NEET format could bring relief and flexibility.

However, opponents highlight logistical challenges for the National Testing Agency (NTA) and concerns about uniformity in question standards, exam security, and medical admission cycles. Medical colleges currently follow a strict academic schedule that might be impacted by multiple exam cycles.

Recently, discussions in academic circles and student communities have intensified as the demand gains traction online. With calls growing louder, all eyes are now on NTA and the Ministry of Education for clarity on whether the NEET format could soon evolve to match JEE’s model.

For now, NEET UG continues as a single-annual exam, but the question remains, will NEET UG 2026 or future cycles witness a major change in the medical entrance system? The decision, if taken, could reshape the future of medical admissions in India.
