University Grants Commission Invites HEIs for Demand-Based Mapping of SWAYAM MOOCs for July 2026 Semester: New Delhi, March 2, 2026: The University Grants Commission (UGC) has issued a formal notification requesting all Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) across the country to undertake a demand-based mapping of SWAYAM MOOCs for the July 2026 semester. The directive aims to align online course offerings with the academic and curricular requirements of universities and colleges.

The notification, dated 02 March 2026 (11 Phalguna 1947), has been issued under the signature of Prof. Manish R. Joshi, Secretary, UGC.

Reference to Earlier Communication

The latest communication refers to UGC’s earlier letter D.O. No. 1-1/2024 (SWAYAM) dated 9th December 2025, wherein HEIs were instructed to:

  • Identify SWAYAM MOOCs for the January 2026 semester

  • Map them with their academic curriculum for credit transfer

  • Disseminate information about the courses among students

Building upon that exercise, the present notification seeks to further strengthen the SWAYAM initiative through structured academic planning.

Objective: Strengthening SWAYAM Through Demand-Based Planning

To ensure that future SWAYAM course offerings are aligned with institutional academic needs, the Ministry of Education (MoE) has advised the UGC to conduct a demand-based mapping exercise in consultation with HEIs for the July 2026 semester.

According to the notification, this exercise will:

  • Enable effective planning of SWAYAM course offerings

  • Facilitate alignment with specific university curriculum requirements

  • Identify academic gaps where additional MOOCs may be needed

Universities are specifically requested to examine their curricula alongside the list of available SWAYAM courses (attached with the notification) and provide detailed feedback.

Inputs Required from Higher Education Institutions

HEIs must provide structured inputs with respect to the following aspects:

Institutions must specify the suitable discipline or subject area of the course, such as:

Submission Deadline and Portal Details

All Higher Education Institutions are required to submit the requisite inputs only through the UGC Mapping Portal at:

https://lseva.ugc.ac.in/swayammapping/

The last date for submission is March 10, 2026.

UGC has emphasized that responses must be submitted exclusively via the portal to ensure proper consolidation and planning.

Significance of the Initiative

The demand-based mapping exercise represents a strategic step in integrating digital learning with mainstream higher education curricula. By actively involving HEIs in the planning process, UGC aims to:

  • Enhance credit mobility

  • Improve curriculum flexibility

  • Address academic gaps

  • Strengthen blended learning models

  • Promote greater adoption of MOOCs

The move is expected to boost the effectiveness of SWAYAM as a national digital learning platform and improve alignment with institutional academic frameworks.
