In accordance with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the CBSE has restructured the paper format for both Class 10 and Class 12. Beginning in 2026, 50% of the questions will be competency-based, which may include MCQs, case-based questions, source-based integrated questions, data interpretation tasks, or situational problems. Another 20% of the paper will feature select-response (MCQ) questions, while the remaining 30% will consist of constructed-response items, such as short-answer and long-answer questions.
This revised structure ensures that half of every question paper evaluates students’ conceptual clarity and their ability to apply learning, instead of simply recalling facts.
Additionally, in line with NEP 2020 guidelines, Class 10 students will have two board examinations starting in 2026, providing greater flexibility in showcasing their learning achievements.
The CBSE Class 10 and Class 12 board examinations are scheduled to begin on February 17. On the first day, Class 10 students will appear for Mathematics Standard and Mathematics Basic papers. For Class 12, the initial exams will include Biotechnology, Entrepreneurship, and Shorthand (Hindi and English). Class 10 examinations will conclude on March 10, while Class 12 exams will end on April 9.
