The move is part of a strategic academic integration with Shiv Nadar University Chennai (SNUC), which operates from an adjoining campus. According to institutional authorities, the merger will be implemented gradually to ensure that currently enrolled students are able to complete their programmes without any academic or administrative disruption.
As part of this transition, SSN College of Engineering has stopped accepting new application forms and has advised prospective students to apply instead to equivalent undergraduate and postgraduate programmes offered by the SSN School of Engineering under Shiv Nadar University Chennai. To address queries from students and parents, the institution has released a detailed Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) document outlining the implications of the phased closure and merger.
At present, SSN College of Engineering has a student strength of over 4,800, comprising undergraduate, postgraduate and research scholars. College officials have clarified that all existing students will continue their studies under the prevailing academic framework and will be awarded degrees by Anna University. The closure will be executed in stages, with no fresh intake permitted from the 2026–27 academic session onwards.
For future aspirants seeking admission to BTech and MTech programmes at the SSN School of Engineering, Shiv Nadar University Chennai, the admission process will involve an entrance examination followed by a personal interview, in line with the university’s established selection criteria.
SSN College of Engineering currently functions as an autonomous institution affiliated with Anna University. Nearly 65 per cent of its seats are filled through online counselling based on Class 12 performance in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. Under the government quota, students pay an annual tuition fee of ₹55,000. In contrast, the annual tuition fee for BTech programmes at Shiv Nadar University Chennai is approximately ₹3.5 lakh.
The university management has assured that the existing fee structure for currently enrolled SSN students will remain unchanged for the duration of their respective programmes. Faculty members will continue their teaching responsibilities until all students complete their courses.
Furthermore, academic regulations of Anna University will continue to apply to students who have arrears or backlogs even after the final batch completes its studies, ensuring continuity in examinations, evaluation and degree certification.
