About Us

Establishment of the College
The Founder was highly motivated by the concept of establishing a Law College at Salem, his birth place and started working on the proposal. The college, in its proposal stage, faced serious objections an obstacles from the government of Tamilnadu but was successfully established in 1984 by an order of the Hon'ble High Court of Madras.

In compliance with the order of the High Court of Madras, the University of Madras granted provisional affiliation in 1984 fir starting the 5 year Integrated B.L Degree Course for students who have successfully completed 12 years of Higher Secondary schooling. Later, permission was granted for starting the 3 year B.L Degree Based Course for candidates who had already obtained a Bachelor Degree. The initial provisional affiliation was confirmed as permanent affiliation by the University of Madras in its order

The Government of Tamilnadu re-organised the functioning of its universities and established ne universities to deal with various professional courses, the Tamilnadu Dr.Ambedkar Law University was formed in 1997 to deal exclusively with legal education. This college has been affiliated to the Law University since then.

The Bar Council of India has accorded its approval under Sec [h] of The Indian Advocates Act 1961 recognizing the law graduates of this college as eligible for entering the legal profession in India and elsewhere as per law. Affiliation of the Government of Tamilnadu is granted by The Tamilnadu Dr.Ambdkar Law University Act,1997.

Admission Process

The Central Law College, Salem Admission Process

The Central Law College Salem offers admissions at the undergraduate level only. The course list of The Central Law College Salem includes B.A L.L.B & L.L.B programmes only. CLC Salem UG admissions are offered based on the marks obtained in CLAT UG examination. Candidates are required to fill the CLAT UG application form and give admission preferences to NLUs. Candidates meeting the CLAT UG cut-off have to participate in the counselling process. Visit The Central Law College Salem admission portal and fill out the application form to apply for admission. Aspiring students must meet the eligibility criteria set by the institute.

CLC Salem UG Admission Process

  • Candidates must have to fulfil the eligibility criteria.
  • Next, eligible candidates have to fill the CLAT application form.
  • Students must appear for CLAT UG and obtain a valid score.
  • After declaration of results, selected candidates will have to participate in CLAT counselling in online mode.
  • During the counselling process, candidates have to give preference to NLU Hyderabad.
  • Candidates are chosen based on their performance in CLAT UG, counselling, seat allotment, document verification and payment of fees.
  • Once assigned a seat, selected candidates must get their documents verified and pay CLC Salem course fees.

The Central Law College, Salem Placements

The Central Law College Salem has a placement cell that handles all the activities related to CLC Salem placement and training. The CLC Salem placement cell meets on a regular basis with industry experts to plan the campus placement drive. On a regular basis, the CLC Salem placement cell organises various activities for students that help to increase students' employability, such as mock interviews, guest lectures, and other events. The placement cell at The Central Law College Salem helps final-year students find jobs. Several companies visit the campus each year for The Central Law College Salem placements.

  • Notifying the internship opportunities available in various legal departments and ministries on noticeboard with the approval of higher authority
  • Providing Internship opportunity to the interested students in the Salem District Court with the supervision of faculty-in-charge
  • Providing opportunity to the students to visit the police station to gain knowledge pertaining to the procedural aspects
  • Providing opportunity to the selected students to visit hospitals to witness the autopsy procedure to analyze the case study
  • Providing opportunity to the interested students for internship in their area of interest by providing support to the students i.e. issuing bonafide/conduct certificate.
  • Providing opportunity to the selected students in the High court based on their academic performance and other activities.
  • Entering MoUs with corporate houses, law firms and banking sectors for placement and internship.
