Coimbatore Institute of Technology (CIT)
Coimbatore Institute of Technology (CIT) was founded in the year 1956 by V. Rangaswamy Naidu Educational Trust (VRET) which was devoted to the cause of promoting technical abd scientific literacy. Prof. R. Venkataswamy Naidu and Prof. P. R.Ramakrishnan are the Founders of Coimbatore Institute of Technology. Prof. R.Venkataswamy Naidu was the Founder Correspondent from 1956 to 1994. Prof. P. R. Ramakrishnan was the Principal from 1956 to 1981 and the Correspondent from 1994 to 2008.
Coimbatore Institute of Technology is a government-aided autonomous engineering college located in Avinashi Road, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, India. CIT is one of the most reputed and prestigious educational institutions in India. The Institute backed by World Class research and development over the years attained autonomous status in 1987. CIT was affiliated to Madras University from 1956 to 1980. In 1980, the Institute became affiliated to Bharathiar University and subsequently to Anna University in 2001. CIT is recognized by the All India Council for Technical Education. The Institute was granted autonomous status in 1987 and is accredited by the National Board of Accreditation.
CIT offers 9 Under Graduate Academic Programmes, 12 Post Graduate Academic Programmes, 4 Five Year Integrated M.Sc. Programmes in addition to Ph.D. Research Programmes. As part of the invaluable service rendered to the society by V. Rangaswamy Educational Trust, the CIT Sandwich Polytechnic College was started in 1961.
The CIT Sandwich Polytechnic College was started in 1961. Presently, 8 Engineering Diploma Programmes are offered by the polytechnic in various engineering disciplines. The National Board of Accreditation has accredited the Mechanical Engineering (Sandwich) and Mechanical Engineering diploma programmes.
CIT is ranked 102 in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) engineering ranking of 2021.[1]

Accreditation is concerned with the evaluation of quality of higher educational institutions as a whole or of a specific educational programme in order to formally recognize it having met with certain minimum standards. National Board of Accreditation (NBA) is an autonomous body established by All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) to make quality an essential element through a combination of internal and external quality assessments of higher level technical institutions. CIT Programs have been accredited since 2005 by NBA.

Minimum Qualifications:
A pass in HSC (Academic) with Maths, Physics and Chemistry
(OR)
A pass in HSC (Vocational Stream) with Engineering Vocational subjects and any one or two of related subjects (Maths, Physics and Chemistry)
(OR)
Diploma in one of the Engineering Courses (Civil, Mechanical, Electrical or Electronics)
(OR)
Any other Equivalent qualification approved by the State Board of Technical Education/Higher Secondary Board of Tamilnadu.
Candidates belonging to communities other than SC/ST should have passed the qualifying examination in not more than two appearances. Candidates belonging to SC/ST should have passed the qualifying examination in not more than three appearances.
Minimum Marks:
For SC/ST candidates, a mere pass in the qualifying examination will suffice.
Candidates belonging to communities other than SC/ST should have obtained the following minimum percentage of marks.
A) H.S.C. (Academic) and other equivalent candidates
OC – 45% average in the related subjects
BC – 40% average in the related subjects
MBC I DNC – 40% average in the related subjects
SC/ST – 40% average in the related subjects
B) H.S.C. (Vocational) Candidates
OC – 45% average in the related subjects
BC – 40% average in the related subjects
MBC I DNC – 40% average in the related subjects
SC/ST – 40% average in the related subjects
C) Diploma Holders
OC – 45% average in the related subjects
BC – 40% average in the related subjects
MBC I DNC – 40% average in the related subjects

The Institute has a Placement Cell headed by a staff member holding the rank of a Professor. The Cell is involved in securing placements for students passing out from the institute. The office keeps close association with various industrial establishments, which conduct pre-placement presentation, campus interviews and select student representatives from each department to co-ordinate the placement activities. The Placement Cell provides state of the art infra-structural facilities to conduct group discussions, tests and interviews. The Placement Cell has a library and a communication lab to enhance the students’ general aptitude and communication skills. A large number of national and multinational companies visit the Institute every year for Campus recruitment. Several reputed companies vie to be the ‘ DAY ONE ‘ company for every academic year.
Information regarding the campus recruitment process are displayed to the students. It helps students to plan their careers by providing information about the industries which approach the institute. At the beginning of the academic year, a general-body meeting of final-year students interested in placement activities is called. Every month, review meeting is convened to plan the future course of action.
The cell also co-ordinates the pre-placement activities of sophomore and junior students, and motivates aspiring students to pursue Higher studies with facilities for preparing competitive exams like GATE, TOEFL, GRE, CAT, GMAT etc.
The “Placement Cell” strives to enhance self employment which is supported by the government by extending financial assistance through banking sector. Further, workshops are organized to bring out.
Application for Scholarship should be submitted in the prescribed form to the Principal within 30 days from the date of reopening of the institute or admission of the candidate to the institute.They should submit all the certificates called for, pertaining to the nature of Scholarship. The Students Should maintain the required Percentage of attendance Stipulated by the affiliating University
No student will be permitted to hold more than one scholarship at a time.
The concessions granted are liable to be withdrawn in case of misconduct such as participation in strike, involvement in ragging etc.
