Overview:

A Doctor of Medicine (DM) in Nephrology is a three-year super-specialty postdoctoral course in India that trains medical professionals to become Nephrologists, Nephrology Consultants, Teachers, and Research Scientists. Students learn diagnostic and therapeutic skills, and how to treat kidney ailments. After completing the course, students can pursue a career in Clinical or Academic Nephrology.

Research into the diseases and functions of the kidneys is the basis of this course. This course covers a variety of topics such as kidney physiology, kidney disease in children, kidney anatomy, etc

This course teaches students how to diagnose and treat kidney diseases and conditions. Students also learn how to conduct research and teach the subject.  Students participate in Clinical, Teaching, and Research activities, including inpatient and outpatient care, Laboratory work, Lectures, Seminars, and Conferences. They also receive additional administrative responsibilities as they gain competency.

To be eligible for a DM in Nephrology, you must first complete an MBBS (undergraduate) course, including one year of internship, and an MD (postgraduate) course in Internal Medicine or Pediatrics. Admission Procedure For D.M  Nephrology:

The admission procedure for a DM in Nephrology course in India typically includes the following requirements:

• Candidates must have an MD/DNB in General Medicine or Paediatrics, or an equivalent qualification, from a recognized university or institute
• Candidates must be registered with the NMC or State Medical Council
• They may need to qualify for the NEET SS exam
• The DM in Nephrology course is typically three years long, but some specialities may have a longer duration.
• Generally, in most of the colleges and institutes offering the course, admission is provided based on the candidate’s performance in a relevant entrance test, conducted at any of State and national levels, followed by a subsequent round of counselling.
• The round of counselling involves two additional rounds of Group Discussion and Personal Interview, wherein candidate’s general aptitude for the course is examined. A merit list is subsequently released issued by the institute allocating available seats to the qualifying candidates.

Eligibility For D.M  Nephrology:

• Post-graduation (MBBS or equivalent degree),completed from an institute recognized by the Medical Council of India (MCI) or any of the State Medical Councils.
  
• A minimum aggregate score of 55% (50% for SC/ST/OBC candidates) at the level of post-graduation.
  
• 1- year compulsory rotating internship.
  
• Preferably, a minimum of 12 months of professional experience, as most reputed institutes prefer candidates with work experience.
