B. S. Abdur Rahman Crescent Institute of Science and Technology was founded by Tamil businessman and philanthropist Dr. B. S. Abdur Rahman in 1984 as Crescent Engineering College, a Muslim minority institution approved by the All India Council of Technical Education and affiliated to University of Madras.

Dr. Buhari Syed Abdur Rahman, a well known personality in the field of Education, Economy and Industry and was also a professional par excellence who reached his pinnacle of scuccess by ultimate perseverence and elegance.  He was an ardent lover of the welfare of society who believed that “the world is for the winner when business is not just about self but also about society”. Dr. Abdur Rahman felt education to be the key to solve socio-economic problems of the society. Hence he founded a number of educational institutions through which a multitude of students have benefitted.

B.S. Abdur Rahman Crescent Institute of Science and Technology, formerly B. S. Abdur Rahman University, is a private deemed university located in the Seethakathi Estate, Vandalur near Tambaram, a suburban area of Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India.  It is bang on the Chennai-Trichy National Highway NH 45, seven km from Tambaram Railway Station, 30 km from Chennai Moffusil Bus Terminus (Koyambedu) and 17 km from the Chennai International Airport. It is situated right next to Anna Zoological Park (Vandalur Zoo) and is spread over 64 acres of greenery along the GST road.The college was affiliated to University of Madras until the year 2001. From 2002, many engineering colleges in the city of Chennai changed affiliations to Anna University. University of Madras became an umbrella university, exclusively for non-professional, Art & Sciences colleges that offer BSc & BCom degrees. Many colleges chose not to affiliate with any university and became deemed universities in their own right. Crescent Engineering College was affiliated to Anna University until 2008. It was elevated to deemed to be university status as B. S. Abdur Rahman University in December 2008. In 2017, it was renamed as B.S. Abdur Rahman Crescent Institute of Science and Technology following the UGC request to drop the "University" from the name.

1. Admission Procedure for Under Graduate Programmes

B.Tech. Programmes

Eligibility

Admission to B.Tech. Degree Programme is based on the performance of the candidate in Crescent Institute Engineering Admission Test (CIEAT) and in the qualifying examination. Candidates having JEE main score 100 and above are exempted from CIEAT.
Crescent Institute Engineering Admission Test (CIEAT) is conducted in major cities all over India during the 4th week of April, every year.
The result of CIEAT is published in the Institute website.
Candidates are called for counselling based on their merit in the CIEAT and in the qualifying examination or JEE main score.
Candidates should have passed 12th standard examination conducted by State Board / CBSE / ISC or equivalent examination with a minimum aggregate of 50% marks in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry
Candidates who have studied in Regular, Full time and Formal Education alone are eligible to apply.
Age Limit: Candidates date of birth should fall on or after 1st July 2000.
English as one of the subjects of qualifying examination
Mathematics, physics and Chemistry as compulsory subjects
Candidates completed A Levels, IB, STPM, HSC, WASSCE, NCEA Level 3, American High School Diploma, etc. with minimum 50% aggregate or equivalent grade in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics and a pass in English

B.Arch.

Eligibility

Candidates for B.Arch. programme are selected through counselling based on the rank secured in the National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA) and in the qualifying examination
Candidates should have passed 10 +2 examination (HSC/ CBSE /ISC etc.) or any other equivalent examination with a minimum aggregate of 50% of Marks in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. They should have studied English as subjects of study
The candidates should have a minimum score with pass in NATA and a minimum aggregate of 50% marks in the qualifying examination
Age Limit: Candidates date of birth should fall on after 1st July 2000
Selection Procedure

Candidates are selected for admission to B.Arch. Programme based on their merit in Qualifying Examination (10 +2) and score obtained in NATA (National Aptitude Test in Architecture).

Note: NATA (National Aptitude Test in Architecture) is the entrance test conducted by National Council of Architecture, INDIA.

B.Des

Eligibility

A Pass in Higher Secondary Examination conducted by State or Central Board of Secondary Education or equivalent examination in any stream with a minimum of 50% overall aggregate of marks.

The institute conducts an entrance test to select candidates for admission to B.Des. programme
Candidates should have passed 10 +2 examination (HSC/ CBSE /ISC etc.) or any other equivalent examination with a minimum aggregate of 50% of Marks
Selection of candidates is based on the merit of the candidate in the entrance test and in the qualifying examination

Admission Procedure for Post Graduate Programmes

M.Tech. Programmes

Eligibility

Bachelor degree in relevant Engineering programme.
Selection of candidates for admission to M.Tech. Programmes is based on the merit of the candidates in Entrance Examination conducted by the respective departments or any other Nationally Recognized Entrance Examination.
Selection is through counselling based on the rank secured in the Entrance Examination and also their merit in the qualifying examination.

Student Amenities

The institute boasts of excellent infrastructure facilities to successfully carryout the programmes offered. The institute spans 50.50 acres of sprawling, serene and evergreen campus. The vast campus has well planned network comprising blocks of various departments, reading halls, classrooms, laboratories, state of the art convention center, computerized library and several play grounds.

Equipment worth more than 439.7 million rupees are available in various laboratories to cater the academic needs of the students. Highly qualified and experienced faculty along with modern teaching techniques make the teaching-learning process effective for the students. Also, the campus houses residential buildings for faculty members and other staff, apart form separate hostels for men and women students.

More than 168 class rooms, 127 laboratories, 50 seminar halls, 22 department libraries are available for the efficient teaching learning process.

                

               

 

        

Computing Facilities

This institute has been following the policy of establishing distributed computing facility for each department with adequate number of servers and client computers and specialized software required for the department and also general software. All the departments and laboratories including hostels are connected by a one giga byte campus-wide fibre optic network. The Institution has a total number of 24 servers, 60 workstations and 1500 desktop clients.

For the First Year students, a common computing facility for those who want to browse the Internet beyond department working hours, a separate facility is provided with 70 systems, in addition to the campus wide WIFI connectivity. The Internet Bandwidth in the campus is 100 Mbps on 1 Gb National Knowledge Network (NKN) with WiFi over 3500 mts Optic Fibre Cable (OFC).

A Central Data Centre with eight numbers of state-of-art high end two processor, Quad Core Blade and Rack Zeon servers and SAN storage of 10 TB with virtualization and management software at a cost of Rs 100 lakhs, connecting the entire campus, is established.
The Departmental Computing facilities are also provided along with Departmental facilities.

The Central Library 

B.S.Abdur Rahman Crescent Institute of Science and Technology has huge collections of books and journals in the field of Science, Engineering, Technology, Pharmacy, Law, Management and Humanities. The Library functions 16 hours in a day (08.00 am to 12.00 midnight), Saturdays and Sundays also the library is working. The Library is well connected with School/Department Libraries, functioning in all the schools and departments. The Digital Library of the Institute is working 24/7. The Library has membership in National Digital Library of India, under the mission of National Knowledge Network. The Library member in Shodhganga to upload PhD thesis. The Library is member in eShodhSindhu and all the online resources are being subscribed through this consortium. The Library is member of National Digital Library of India (NDLI), DELNET (Developing Library Network), MALIBNET (Madras Library Network), British Council Division, Anna University - Chennai, American Information Resource Centre and Structural Engineering Resource Centre (SERC), Chennai.

Health Center

A healthy body and a sound mind are the mainstays of academic and personal excellence. For the benefit of students, the institute has a health centre that is operational 24 x 7 with additional 8 bed in-patient facility and an ambulance. Two resident doctors, one male and one female, are ably supported by qualified paramedical staff to ensure smooth operations. A specialist doctor makes weekly visits to the hostel. The institute also has a tie-up with AG Hospital, Tambaram, for emergencies.
