Dr G R DAMODARAN COLLEGE OF SCIENCE (Autonomous) , affiliated to the BHARATHIAR UNIVERSITY, Coimbatore and recognized by the UNIVERSITY GRANTS COMMISSION is a highly regarded Co-educational Institution offering Degree, Post Graduate, M.Phil and Ph.D programmes in Management, Computer Science and Information Technology, Biotechnology, Visual and Mass Communication, Commerce and International Business, Tamil literature and Psychology etc.

It was started in 1988, and within a span of 3 decades it had registered exceptional progress.The NAAC is a statutory body set up by the UGC for assessing and rating the Universities and Colleges in India so as to help them identify and overcome weaknesses and deficiencies and motivate them towards quality enhancement. Dr. GRDCS (Autonomous) put its claims for high Overall Quality and Superior Performance (in the pursuit of excellence) beyond question by obtaining recognition including the Re- accreditation at the ‘A’ GRADE Level rating by the NAAC (NATIONAL ASSESSMENT AND ACCREDITATION COUNCIL).

Dr. G. R. Admission Details
Admissions to the UG Courses generally commence on the day following the +2 (Higher Secondary) results of Tamilnadu (usually around middle of May) and get mostly completed within 2-3 weeks.

However, candidates from other States may contact the College well in advance (say in May) for prospectuses and to find out the possibility of being considered for admissions even if their results are likely to get delayed. A selection process comprised of Entrance tests followed by Group discussion and / or Interviews makes admissions to the MCA and MBA. For MBA, MAT score will be considered. Please keep a watch for newspaper notifications for Statewide/All India Common Entrance Tests since a good number of seats in MBA and MCA are required to be filled up under State auspices. An Entrance test for M.Sc(Biotech) is generally conducted in June at the College.

For other postgraduate courses (Mass Communication, Marketing Management, International Business, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Computer Science) the admission starts immediately after the publication of undergraduate degree results (around middle of June). Here too, candidates from other States may contact the College early (say in May) for prospectuses and to register their names for consideration.

Outstanding candidates may however contact the College up to the end of July for ascertaining the possibility of being accommodated in vacancies, if any, in MBA/MCA and other PG courses.

Placements

Placement is the lifeline of any institution. The College has a Placement Cell, which helps the students secure placement. Principal is the Coordinator of the Cell and there is a Placement Officer for the specific purpose of taking care of placement and training. The Placement Officer is assisted by Staff Coordinators from various departments to inform the students about the letters coming from companies.

In addition, there are Student Representatives from the final year PG and UG classes, actively involve in planning the placement activities and making the necessary arrangements for Campus Placement drives.

Regular classes for Career Skill Enhancement Programme is held to build their skills in Aptitude Test, Communication Skills, General knowledge, Group Discussion etc. to take the students succeed in the Campus Interviews.

The college conducts both on campus and off campus interviews to get the students placed in the companies of their choice.Placement Profiles of the final year students are also prepared to be distributed to the prospective companies.

Resource Persons are called regularly to conduct Seminars and Symposiums on Career Guidance Programme to train the students in the interview skills. Some of the companies that offered placement for our students are, Standard Charted Bank, Bangalore, CITI Financials, Chennai, ICICI Prudential Chennai, KGISL, Coimbatore, WIPRO Technologies, Bangalore, HSBC, GE Money, Jet Airways, Air Sahara, Karvy Groups, TCS, IBM, INFOSYS, Bangalore, Accenture, Convergys, NIIT, HCL and Reliance, Bombay.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions: The fee structure for MIB per semester is 82,500 which it is worth the cost. There are international trips happening where we could explore more. We have an Industrial visit and boot camp to gain more knowledge practically and physically. I got my scholarship for a Merit seat where merit is given to students score more than 75%

Library

The college has excellent library facilities to support studies and research. The Library building, which is a large structure with a single central pillar, provides large unobstructed reading and referencing spaces. The first floor houses the Rukmini Damodaran Auditorium. The GRDCS Library is well stocked, well staffed and above all is constantly updated by additions. To meet the needs of teachers to keep abreast the developments and for research referencing, over 142 printed periodicals are subscribed to in the different fields of study and Online database (EBSCO) is available in the field of Management.

The Library has developed a well balanced collection over the years in the areas of Computer Science, Management Science, Commerce and Business, Social Work, Bio Sciences, Communication and Languages along with a considerable number of general books. This well balanced collection of books, journals, magazines, back volumes of periodicals, projects / theses and non – conventional materials like Compact Discs (CDs) are supplemented by services like the Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC). Besides, it has the supporting facility of Reprography.

The present stock of books and texts are 47220. There is a CD collection, which is growing. The Library has computerized indexing and search functions. The Library functions on the open access basis, and works for extended hours on working days and is open on Sundays also. The Management, Computer Sciences and Commerce Departments have their own department libraries.

In order to keep in tune with the times and also to improve efficiency and speed in its services, the library is fully automated with the implementation of InsProPlus, an Integrated Library Management System. Thus, the routine library activities like Circulation Transactions, Serial Control, Technical processing etc. are automated.

HOSTELS
MESS RULES & REGULATIONS (Common For Both The Men And The Women):
The Dividing System will be followed for the daily rate calculation.
In case of long continuous absence with due intimation, reduction in the Mess bill will be allowed for the number of days of the absence less 3 days.
Milk will be provided at night upon request at an extra charge.
Non vegetarian items will be provided at an extra charge calculated on the dividing basis among those opting for it.
