History of the College

In the 21^st century, the Govt Law College Vellore is considered as one of the best Institution of Excellence, Scholarship and Rigor. The aim of our college is to nurture students to develop in to socially sensitized leaders inculcating in them the Intellectual, Practical, Entrepreneurial Skills and Ethical Value for their legal career as well as Social Life.

The Law College was established in the year 2008 by Govt of Tamilnadu. The college was recognized by  Bar Council Of India and affiliated by The Tamilnadu Dr. Ambedkar Law University. The main objective of college is to provide Effective and Quality Legal Education and affordable cost to students hailing from rural areas. Our college offers 3years B.L/ LLB regular, 5year BALLB and 2 years LLM degree course in the co-educational manner with the total strength of 660 students. First Generation Graduate from Rural and Semi Urban Area contribute to a significant proportion of our students.

Initially the college was housed at the old building in the year 2009 and the institution moved to the new building with ozone friendly environment spread over 10.8acres of land having  an excellent infrastructure. Apart from classrooms, well furnished Moot Court Hall, Seminar Hall, Conference Hall and Central Library with vast collection of volumes which support Learning, Teaching and Research.

In the year 2019-2020, the college reaches another milestone by commencing the LLM Degree Course in Constitutional and Administrative Law.

To be at the helm of Government Law College Vellore in the realm of god almighty,  indeed is a blessing bestowed  upon me. Our institution is one of the Prominent Government Law Colleges in Tamilnadu. It also possesses the credential of being situated in the vicinity of the District Court. It’s proximity to the esteemed Court surely is a great advantage for our students as it allows them to groom early for their career in judiciary.

The brigade of faculty members in our college is ever ready to work in unison and to combat challenges to create a befitting ambience for the promotion of sound legal studies. Our team is also well aware of the tremendous effort required to keep pace with the rapidly growing areas of the Law.

We recognize the obligation to the practising members of the bar who are our great resources as they provide us the imputes to train our students regarding the operations of the court, Hon’ble Judges of the Madras High Court has always cheerfully consented to address the freshers and enlightened them concerning the challenges they need to surmount.

Advocacy skills involve several distinct arts, each of it must be studied and mastered. To impart advocate skills, we provide a platform to our students through “Moot Court” sessions.

We also enrich students experience in the college and in the world outside through our NSS programmes as we aim at a wholesome development.  Due attention is given to sports too, many accolades are won by our students in the inter-college championships.

We cultivate the students an active and intelligent interest in public affairs, so that they become eminent lawyers and qualify as leaders of public opinion and eventually as great leaders.

The Law College was established in 2008 by the Government of Tamil Nadu. This university is recognized by the Bar Council of India and offers Ph.D. degrees in Tamil Nadu. Affiliated to Ambedkar Law University. The main objective of this university is to provide effective and quality legal education at an affordable cost to rural students. Our university offers a 3-year regular B.L./LLB course, a 5-year BALLB course, and a 2-year LLM course in a coeducational manner, with a total number of students of 660. The majority of our students are first-generation graduates from rural and semi-urban areas. Initially, the university was located in an old building in 2009, but the facility was relocated to a new building in an ozone-friendly environment on a 10.8-acre site with excellent infrastructure. In addition to our classrooms, we also have a fully equipped moot court hall, seminar and conference halls, and a central library with an extensive library to support learning, teaching and research. In 2019-2020, the university achieved a new milestone with the launch of the LLM course in Constitutional Law and Administrative Law. 

FOR 5 YEAR  BALLB

Candidates who have passed the qualifying examination under 10+2 pattern with not less than 45% of marks which is recognized by the syndicate as equivalent to Higher Secondary Examination of the Government of Tamil Nadu, are eligible for admission.

For S.C./S.T. candidates concession of 5% marks in the minimum of marks required for admission for B.L. 5 year Degree Course of study as prescribed in the regulations will be given.

FOR 3 YEAR  LLB

Candidates who have passed a three year Degree Examination of Universities in Tamil Nadu and Such degree awarded by Member Universities of Association of Indian Universities, New Delhi for purpose of mutual recognition on reciprocal basis, after 10+2+3+ or 11+1+3 pattern and also recognized by Tamil Nadu Dr. Ambedkar Law University alone are eligible for admission to B.L. (3 years) Degree Course.

P.G COURSE

FOR 2 YEAR  LLM

A candidate who has passed the B.L./LL.B Degree Examination and has secured not less than 50% of the aggregate marks in all the Three Years of the Three Year B.L./LL.B Degree Course or in all Five Years of the Five Year B.L. / LL.B Degree Course together, as the case may be, shall be eligible to apply for the LL.M. Degree Course. However a relaxation of 5% is given to the candidates belonging to SC/ST communities.

SCHOLARSHIP:

From 1977 – 78 onwards all kinds of scholarships (viz. residential and non-residential) relating to post matric studies shall be sanctioned subject to 90% attendance by the students who seek and are eligible for the benefit.
