The Tamil Nadu Physical Education and Sports University established by an Act of the Government of Tamil Nadu in 2004, is unique and the first of its kind in India as an affiliatory University, exclusively for Physical Education and Sports. After obtaining the accent from his Excellency the president of India on 5th August 2005, the said act came into force with effect from 15th September 2005.

It is a rare coincidence that the University has started functioning from December 2005, declared by the United Nations as International year for Sport and Physical Education. At present the University has three Faculties, five Departments and ten affiliated Colleges. Further the University now offers select Physical Education and Allied Courses, through collaborative programme and Distance Education stream also.

4. To produce competent health conscious Physical Education teachers at various levels, who will be fully equipped to impart instruction in Physical Education and undertake physical activity programmes for children and youth.

The Placement Cell of the University takes care of the Training and Placement Activities of the students. Various training programmes are conducted for students for enhancing their soft skills, leadership qualities and communication skills. The main aim of the Placement Cell are as follows:

• Continuous interaction with the industry to increase the presence of the University
• Mobilise internal faculty resource for prepare students for final placement process
• Organise workshop/practice sessions through visiting faculty of national repute.
• Organise Guest lectures.

Rules of eligibility for sports scholarship and incentive

1. The fresh students who are admitted into various courses of study in the university

departments are eligible to apply for the sports scholarship.

2. The fee concession is applicable only for the first year course of study. The fee

concession for subsequent years of course of study will be renewed based on the sports

achievement of the candidate during the course of study.

3. The sports achievements of the players must be latest two years from the date of

admission.

4. The eligible candidates should apply for the sports scholarship in the prescribed form

available in the Sports Secretary office and submit the form with all necessary sports

achievements certificates.

5. The candidate who participated in All India Inter University by direct qualification will be

considered on the basis of certificate verification and selection trials.

6. The trials will be conducted by the Sports Secretary and the candidate’s performance

will be evaluated by a three members committee (Sports Secretary being the Ex Officio and two

specialization experts from the discipline concerned).

7. The candidate has to apply for renewal of sports concession for subsequent years of

study if the candidate is found eligible.

8. The university authorities have the right to cancel the awarded sports scholarship to a

candidate if the candidate is found to have violated the rules of the university / hostel /

sportsmanship.

9. The candidates claiming for sports incentive during the course of the study should apply

in the specified application form available at the sports secretary office.

10. If a candidate claims the incentive/sports concession for South zone and All India

achievements of a same year in a game, whichever is higher will be awarded to such candidate.

11. The incentive amount will be credited in the candidate’s bank account.

12. The Sub junior / Junior / Senior nationals sports participants and achievers certificate will

be considered only when they have represented through the associations which were found in

the list of approved and recognized associations by Sports Development Authority of Tamil

Nadu.

13. The International sports participants and achievers certificates in Olympics games and

non Olympic Games will be considered if the candidate has participated through the approved

and recognized associations by SDAT and IOA.

14. The sports secretary has the discretion to take the final decision in the case of any

dispute with regard to eligibility for sports scholarship/cash incentive.

Innovation and Incubation Centre (IIC)

• The Tamil Nadu Physical Education and Sports University Innovation and Incubation Centre is an ideal Research and Development Innovation Ecosystem of the university which enable to nurture ideas through research developing promoting start up culture among young entrepreneurs.
• The main aim of the TNPESU-IIC is to ensure the collaboration with educational institutions, corporate, industries, knowledge hubs and other socio-economic related agencies.
• This liaison Centre based on the University Campus is empowered to spread across efficient human resources and affordable knowledge capital, technical, testing and training tools required for the other agencies of this society.
• Considering its developmental activities, this liaison Centre is visualized to serve the needs of this region to enhance its developmental capabilities in multiple ways.

The University has a well-equipped library with modern facilities.
It has a rich source of information resources ranging from Text Books, Reference Books, Journals, Theses, Reports, Standards, CD-ROMs, etc.
Currently, it has in possession 2900 books which fulfil the day to day information requirements.
The facility can be used by both students and faculty for research and development activities.
