Tumkur University, established in the year 2004, has gained significance as one of the young universities in the country and has been recognized as an institution of higher learning on par with high profile national institutions. It is a State University, established to cater to the educational needs of Tumakuru district where the majority of students hail from the rural background.
Since its inception, the University has been witnessing tremendous growth in the development of its academic profile and infrastructural facilities. Within a short span of thirteen years, the University has been successful in being recognized as an Institute of National Eminence by the UGC, besides being recognized under section 12 (B) of the UGC Act 1956 and also successfully gaining 'B+' grade by the NAAC accreditation.
Recently, the university has been rated as a 'Three Star' institution under the Karnataka State Universities Rating Framework (KSURF) released by the Karnataka State Higher Education Council, Bengaluru. The evaluation was based on the criteria of Knowledge Production, Knowledge Transmission and Social Inclusiveness, besides taking into consideration the performance of the university in the domain of research, innovation, teaching, generating employment opportunities, providing basic amenities, inclusiveness and making social impact.
Seventeen Departments of Postgraduate Studies and Research in the faculties of Science and Technology, Arts, Commerce and Management; two Constituent Colleges, the University College of Arts and the University College of Science; and more than eighty-six affiliated Colleges constitute the universe of the Tumkur University. The ever swelling academic profile of the University constantly witnesses the highly qualified faculty of the University who have been regularly publishing scientific and research papers in refereed international journals and other new media, in addition to participating in conferences, workshops and other academic events.
The University offers PhD Programmes in all the faculties. The research profile of the University includes 62 Research projects from various funding agencies such as Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), Department of Science and Technology (DST), Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB), UGC, ICSSR, ICHR, Vision Group on Science and Technology (VGST), Government of Karnataka, and the British Council, etc.
The Prasaranga, publication division of the University, has so far brought out several research-based books, besides bringing out a University Newsletter and two scholarly refereed journals including Pragmata: Journal of Human Sciences and Lokajnana: Journal of Cultural Studies in Kannada.
In addition, the University has had significant academic collaborations with several organizations and institutions of national importance including the Institute for Social and Economic Change, Bangalore; Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai; Intel, India; University of Rouen, France, National Law School of India University, Bangalore; and Mangalore University.
The gleaming history of the University owes its glory also to eminent scientists, Nobel Laureates, Spiritual Leaders including the 14th Dalai Lama who have visited the University. Our students and faculty have been immensely benefited by their interaction with scientists like Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam and several other thinkers and educationists.

Candidates can obtain the application form by paying INR 250/- (INR 125/- for SC/ST).
Application form can also be obtained via post by sending a self addressed envelope to ''Registrar, Tumkur University, Tumkur" along with a demand draft in favor of "Finance Officer, Tumkur University, Tumkur".
The selection process consists of an entrance test, which is designed to check the aptitude of the candidate towards the subject in question.
Candidates must also appear for a personal interview, which may include questions based on research or subject specific knowledge. The cumulative performance in the entrance test and interview is considered for the final merit list.

Scholarship from Sitaram Jindal Foundation
The Sitaram Jindal Foundation offers scholarships to over 10,000 students, including those studying in UG and PG courses. The foundation is likely to increase the number of scholarships, particularly to poor students. Although the minimum marks have been prescribed for most courses, still this is not a merit scholarship, and the objective of the scheme is to extend financial help to deserving poor students.

The university offers a variety of Tumkur University scholarships to deserving candidates seeking admission to undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. State-level scholarships are also available for Tumkur University students. Department of Social Welfare, Karnataka offers a variety of scholarships to students in Karnataka. Hostel: The students hailing from socially and economically marginalised groups are offered hostel facilities. The Tumkur University hostel facilities are available for women and BCM students. Admission to the hostels is made through the selection committee as per the college rules.
Wi-Fi: The university campus is enabled with a wireless network to provide seamless internet access to teachers, research scholars and students. Instant access to a wide range of information resources has also been made available through Wi-Fi all over the campus for the students.
Computing Facilities: Tumkur University has sufficiently upgraded its technological base of the infrastructure, which is testified by the use of computers. The college understands the demands of the job market and considers the training of the students in computing skills as a necessary preparation for higher learning in all the disciplines.

Library: The library is well organised and has about 41397 books and 36 journals. There is a book bank facility for the benefit of students, books purchased from special component plans and tribal special plan grants. A Bibliographic (holding) list print and a soft copy are available. Tumkur University library is providing reprography services which are helping the users to get the photocopy of the required information. It has computers with internet connectivity. There is a subject-wise list of CDs that can be accessed using computers. It also provides internet facilities to the staff. The library has subscriptions for journals, magazines, and newspapers. A reading room facility is available, which helps the users to know about the local, regional and national news.
International Centre: The college act as a link between local aspirations and global opportunities. The international centre coordinates academic collaborations with foreign universities and other educational institutions. Guest Houses: The Tumkur University infrastructure offers two well-furnished guest houses. A faculty guest house is available to accommodate the teaching faculty members who come from other universities on examination work, evaluation, conferences, seminars, and other academic assignments. In addition, Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya Bhavan is an air-conditioned guest house for accommodating VIPs.
